Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties

  • Enters patient data in the system including patient name, insurance, allergies, doctor and diagnosis. Enters the prescription in the system, selecting the brand, product/drug, and appropriate strength to align with the instructions given by the prescribing Provider.
  • Establishes that each patient and prescription meet strict eligibility criteria before processing new prescriptions or refills.
  • Completes third party billing entry and resolves billing issues.
  • Generates prior authorizations and ensures successful completion by medical staff and/or Providers.
  • Fills or dispenses the accurate product and quantity from the pharmacy stock.
  • Processes prescription refills verifying refill availability.
  • Maintains awareness of stock level and enters order for restocking based on defined minimum inventory levels. Verifies quantity and submits order to the Wholesaler.
  • Verifies product orders received with invoice and purchase order. Places a sticker on each item and places on the shelf.
  • Monitors and checks expiration dates on drugs in stock and prepares expired stock for return to Wholesaler. Processes credit invoices associated with the returns.
  • Returns or discards dispensed prescription to stock if they are returned by a pharmacy. Enters information in the system for reverse billing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).

Experience: One year's experience working in a healthcare setting preferred.

Professional Licenses/Certificates/Registration:WA Pharmacy Technician Certification. Alternatively, may substitute a Pharmacist Intern license for a Pharmacy Technician license. Or a state licensed Pharmacy Assistant (who is participating in an eligible Pharmacy Technician Training Program).
