Advanced Manufacturing Engineer - Forge
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer - Forge will lead and support forging process development for medical device products across the company. Manage technical aspects of new programs and products for a successful launch as measured by key indicators including safety, profit / margin, scrap, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
The role requires the above to be accomplished within Tecomet’s principles of continuous improvement, customer driven innovation and a win first culture, while meeting company financial and other performance metrics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design forge process for medical device products.
Calculate die cavity volumes for thermal expansion, finish, and dimensional values.
Work with design team on development of dies/tools.
Provide support to forge personal during development and production of all forge product.
Review and maintain all metallurgical data received from testing vendors.
Improve current product for cost reduction and reduce forge defects.
Lead in the development of forge process related technical aspects of new programs (NPI) and projects for a successful launch, aligning with internal APQP processes while driving to meet key indicators including lead-time, safety, margin, scrap, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
Support legacy product lines to maintain targeted quality, delivery, and financial performance metrics.
Assist on furnace surveys and calibration/ validation requirements.
Drive and support engineering change order (ECO) and process change.
Support CAPA root cause analysis activities, as needed.
Support Quote & Cost Modeling development activities regarding forge processes.
Lead solutions with interdepartmental cooperation on forge manufacturing issues.
Follow established company/department rules and regulations and maintain quality standard.
Support strategic manufacturing process developments through Strategic Deployment and Lean Daily Management, activities.
Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by engineering manager.
Qualification Requirements
Educational/Training Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines is required: Forge Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
A Minimum of 5 years of experience directly supporting forging process development and operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Strong knowledge and understanding of GD&T principles.
Advanced knowledge and strong experience with near-net shaped forging processes.
Knowledge of specialty alloys, e.g., Titanium, Stainless Steel, Cobalt Chrome, and others.
Knowledge of forging raw material preparation processes.
Knowledge of forging preform processes including drawing, bending, glass-coating, etc.
Knowledge of blasting and scale removal processes e.g., acid-etch.
Experience with Hot Forming forging processes, preferred.
Experience with manufacturing automation in a forging environment, preferred.
Knowledge of inspection equipment and use.
Knowledge of CAD Software e.g., Siemens NX (Unigraphics, SOLIDWORKS, or similar).
Knowledge of Deform software or similar.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles.
Familiarity with Gage R&R capability studies, SPC, FMEA, or Six Sigma.
