POSITION SUMMARY: The Teacher Assistant works in partnership with Program Team Members and partners to create a program that addresses the individual needs of the children assigned to her/his care. The Teacher Assistant is responsible for observing and monitoring student activity at all times. The Teacher Assistant must be constantly aware of the locations of students and keep them in line of sight. Through this observation, they must be able to recognize inappropriate behavior and use classroom management techniques to maintain structure and safety. The Teacher Assistant must consistently provide safe conditions for children.

Essential Duties: Actively participates with children in activities. Stimulates each childs natural curiosity and desire to learn;

Assists in planning and implementing age appropriate lesson plans and activities;

Respects the individuality of each child;

Provides opportunities for daily communication with caregivers;

Develops and maintains a good working relationship with caregivers, school personnel (where appropriate), community partners, and team members.

Maintains a working knowledge of ALL regulating authority requirements such that on a daily basis, health, safety and licensing requirements are monitored and adhered to;

Reports any suspected cases of child abuse to the appropriate authorities (mandated reporter status), maintaining records of reported abuse and the response of the investigator, in accordance with regulating authority requirements;

Assists in updating program physical environment to reflect the lessons currently being taught.

QUALIFICATIONS: An Associates Degree in Human Services or related field and two (1) years youth development programming experience preferred; or

A high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one (2) years of youth development programming experience;

Experience working with marginalized communities preferred.
