Shipping clerks manage all aspects of shipping, ensuring that orders are processed and shipped and received efficiently, accurately, and on time.

General Definition

Under general supervision, performs a varied routine of tasks required in the daily shipping and receiving operations. Compares and processes information for incoming and outgoing shipments on purchase orders, customer orders, or other documents.

Essential Duties

• The position requires a knowledge of business practices and concepts as well as basic computer skills that include but are not limited to the MAS 500 and Microsoft Outlook computer programs.
• Must be capable of openly communicating in an efficient manner, work well with others even when under pressure, and maintain accurate records and/or files. Notify purchasing department of shortages that prevent meeting shipments deadlines - either by phone, e-mail, or both.
• Prepares shipments for UPS and alternate methods of shipment. Selects appropriate shipping packages; packs items into shipping containers to ensure safe delivery; and labels/addresses UPS shipments using UPS computer programs.
• Approves ship dates on assemblies being shipped via UPS and will issue date approvals on orders that can be further relayed to the customer, when qualified purchasing personnel are absent.
• Provides customer service with the UPS tracking numbers that may help trace lost shipments. Provides documented signatures for proof of delivery of shipments utilizing UPS computer hardware.
• Notifies shipping department of tanks that have not been delivered to the stockroom that are scheduled to ship via UPS.
• Quotes UPS shipment freight charges.
• Processes transfer orders for all locations and, at times, may approve transfers.
• Assemble complex assemblies from detailed BOM sheets that must be read and fully comprehended - both for packaged shipments and Lincoln plan production.
• Able to read detailed information from tank drawings which are available via a computer program.
• Checks items to be shipped against customer orders to ensure that components, quantities, destinations, and mode of freight handling are correct.
• Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip our purchase order to verify accuracy of shipments; helps process some customer return orders into their proper storage locations. This may involve operating a pallet jack, hand dolly, and/or forklift in loading and unloading materials.
• Counts, sorts, unpacks and stores inbound material.
• Inspects shipments for damage or defects; records discrepancies or damage and notifies supervisor and/or purchasing department of the same.
• Delivers items to the departments that requisitioned them.
• Enters receipts into the computer database and forwards shipping/receiving paperwork to the next proper department.
• Creates, processes and closes work orders as dictated by sales orders.
• Follows established procedures with minimal supervision and observes quality objectives to achieve better customer satisfaction.
• Conducts cycle counts inventory levels as needed when stock discrepancies are discovered.
• Performs essential duties during the absence of the receiving leader/supervisor that are particularly unique, including the inspecting and approving of parts received from China which are compared to the procedural standard established by Snyder Industries.
• Ensures that all materials handled within the stockroom comply with the proper MSDS methods.
• Promotes improvements of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of or have ability t learn UPS or commercial shipping procedures/method is required.
