Job Overview:
APTIM is seeking a Civil/Environmental Engineering Intern to conduct environmental site investigations and remedial actions. This position requires the ability to conduct field work, desktop analysis and reporting, occasional overnight travel, and application of knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
Duties may include but is not limited to: installation of environmental soil borings and monitoring wells (both manually with a hand auger and also with a licensed drilling subcontractor), collection and documentation of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, environmental permitting, installation of environmental remediation systems, implementation of both in-situ and ex-situ remedial actions, underground storage tank installation and removal, and underground storage tank system inspections, and ability to gain working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Provides technical support to clients in a variety of work scopes including but not limited to: environmental site characterization, monitoring, permitting, regulatory reporting, Phase I and Phase II due diligence, and residential and commercial construction.
Collects and interprets soil, groundwater, and air samples.
Oversight of drilling activities, including but not limited to direct push, hollow stem auger, and sonic drilling as well as directional drilling.
Basic land surveying skills such as top of casing surveys.
Performs overspill bucket inspections/sampling for underground storage tanks.
Executes field work, maintains project schedule and budgetary goals, and supervises contractors.
Conducts work independently or as part of a project team and can adjust to rapidly changing site conditions or client requirements.
Adheres to established health and safety policies and procedures and executes work in a safe and conscientious manner.
Conducts Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations in accordance with ASTM Standards and client requirements.
Supports environmental permitting and permit compliance projects.
Drafts technical documents for regulatory agencies and private clients.
Understands technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
Manages own schedule and balances multiple priorities to meet project targets and deadlines.
Utilizes best practices and knowledge of internal and external business systems to improve products or services as a collaborative member of the APTIM team.
Duties may also include overlap with APTIM's industrial hygiene group including inspections, assessment and sampling for asbestos, lead-based paint and other material concerns.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineer required with an intent to obtain Professional Engineer license in the future.
0-1+ years of experience participating in various scopes associated with environmental site assessment and technical report preparation.
Must have a valid Driver's License.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to travel as needed with occasional overnight stays.
Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, scientific computer programs
The following certifications are a plus: 40-hour OSHA-HAZWOPER training, OSHA 10-Hour, or Licensed Asbestos Inspector
