With little or no technical direction, perform inspection and testing procedures on mechanical assemblies and parts to determine if they conform to blueprints, work orders, engineering specifications, and mil specifications.
Read and interpret technical drawings and Bill of Materials and determine if parts conform.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES:
Perform necessary inspection work
Perform layouts of materials and parts and inspections of tools, fixtures, and gages as required.
Perform required inspection setups and support source inspections as required.
Setup, calibrate, and use precision measuring instruments.
Perform calculations, including trigonometric solutions of triangle, for layouts and inspections.
Observe use of tools and gages, make recommendations for inspection tooling required and inspect tools fixtures, and gages as required.
Write Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Make recommendations for repairs, replacements, and modifications of inspection tools.
Ensure conformance to blue prints, written procedures and quality specifications.
Move materials, parts, and/or tools as necessary to perform inspection.
Maintain all necessary records
Maintain a clean and safe work area and report all discrepancies to management.
Perform daily inspection audits.
May plan and devise inspection setups without use of specially designed jigs and tools
Perform simple FAIs
Perform lower graded duties and responsibilities as required.
TYPICAL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT INVOLVED:
- Rules, micrometers, Vernier gages, indicators, hardness testers, faros, optical and visual comparator, thread and plug gages, surface plates, and other related equipment.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent and six months previous experience in a QA environment
Successful completion and passing of written pre-employment test
An understanding of computers and the ability to enter and retrieve data from PCs as required.
Ability to adapt to changes
Knowledge of practical standard shop mathematics, manufacturing processes, machining processes, and statistical quality control
Ability to lift, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 30 pounds
Proficiency in the operation of precision measuring instruments
