A Facilities Project/Maintenance Engineer job is open with a manufacturing client in Winston-Salem, NC. The individual will be responsible for the startup of a facility in Winston- Salem, NC as well as maintenance facility in Hartselle, Alabama. The Facilities Project and Maintenance Engineer is the lead engineer and technical expert for facilities and associated infrastructure maintenance issues in support of the Facilities Management organization. The FME conducts investigations, evaluations, and research necessary to ensure the facilities, equipment and infrastructure operate in a reliable and efficient manner. The individual could also be in in Hartselle but preferred in Winston-Salem with travels to Hartselle

Responsibilities Project Engineer Function:

  • Manages and supervises the facilities startup activities on one or more projects while implementing the

development of a new manufacturing facility.

  • Review of project design specifications, documents and drawings and provide recommendation of changes to design so that projects are safe and operable.

  • Direct and monitor assigned office or project startup and operations which may include review of design for plant operability, preparation of specific task procedures and coordination with construction during field check out and pre-commissioning and testing and execution of the startup in the field.

  • Compliance with Functional and Corporate policies and procedures with a particular focus on safety and quality.

  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID and 3D Model reviews.

  • Develop schedules for integration into overall project schedule and budget proposal that covers the full scope of services required for the new facility.

  • Ensure that work being performed is within scope of services and within budget.

  • Provide input to project management, engineering, and construction to ensure startup requirements are

incorporated into project activities.

  • Review of project designs and construction to ensure plant operability and operating personnel safety.

  • Coordinate, as directed, with project management, the startup related engineering, construction, and client activities as an office assignment or during startup, operations, maintenance or testing at the jobsite.

  • Establish, maintain, and develop a strong positive relationship.

Responsibilities Maintenance function:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department.

  • Utilizes engineering theories and principles to provide guidance and recommendations to internal FM

departments to solve current facility, equipment, or utility system issues for various systems. These systems areas include, but are not limited to, HVAC, compressed air, roofing, building controls and automation, interior and exterior lighting, and Utility systems.

  • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program for applicable machinery and equipment, and the building and grounds.

  • Tracks maintenance downtime. Develops and/or works with Continuous Improvement (CI) and/or Safety Manager.

  • Coordinates and manages appropriate third-party contractor support as needed.

  • Prepares Maintenance budget and secures estimates and cost quotes as needed.

  • Maintains up-to-date records for all local, state, and federal mandates and inspections and supports and enforces all safety and housekeeping practices.

  • Prepares and maintains maintenance reports for the Plant Operations Manager and other appropriate managerial personnel. Makes recommendations where applicable.

  • Works with other plant managerial personnel to effectively maintain existing plant facilities and equipment, replaces, and/or makes recommendations and adjustments to plant facilities and equipment to the Plant Operations Manager when necessary.

  • Provides training for new and existing team members, conduct performance evaluations of subordinates, and assists in the selection of new hires, team member disciplinary concerns.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, facilities engineering, or related field

  • 5 years supervisory experience in facility mechanical systems maintenance or design experience (HVAC, boilers, chilled water, compressed air, roofing, building controls and automation, and interior and exterior lighting OR

  • Additional work knowledge and experience in place of a degree is acceptable

  • Knowledge of wood industry, plumbing, electrical, machine repair and maintenance, plant layout, safety, painting, and custodial experience required and familiarity with hand/power tool

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA health and safety standards and compliance.

  • Experience monitoring contractor performance and compliance for existing service and preventative

maintenance contracts and agreements

  • Lean manufacturing.

  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System programs (TMA) to coordinate and validate system maintenance and operation.

  • Knowledge of production machines, tools, and maintenance, and how they relate to plant production and maintenance goals and objectives, doors experience preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Sound technical, leadership, teamwork, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills required.

  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and work effectively as a team player throughout the plant with individuals and various plant teams.

  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • Priority setting skills and Project management skills.

  • Ability to motivate, train and coach employees to encourage optimum performance and engagement, to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment, and work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Travel may be required for up to 50% of the time
