Your role

CBC Windsor is looking for a producer to lead the Windsor Morning team serving our morning radio audience, and to help make that content sing on other platforms throughout the day. You will be responsible for what airs on morning radio – bringing fresh ideas, sharp editorial skills, a keen understanding for audio storytelling and an ability to see where the story is going, not just where it’s been.

This producer leads a team of four people and reports to the Executive Producer. In this role, you will produce a show that aims to inform, entertain and reflect the interests and concerns of people living in Windsor-Essex. You are always thinking about how to reach our target audience and work to include a broad range of perspectives, especially those from traditionally underrepresented groups. You are an experienced journalist and ensure all our content adheres to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. You have your finger on the pulse of Windsor-Essex and are committed to making the show sound like Windsor, responsive to the news of the day and relevant to the lives of our audience. You liaise and collaborate with colleagues on the Afternoon Drive radio team.

You love audio-storytelling and find creative ways to make the most of the medium, while also thinking about how that Windsor Morning content would look on digital and video.

You are a team player and work well with others, bringing a positive and collaborative attitude to your work. You are an experienced leader and clear communicator who can inspire and motivate your team. You are keen to lean into a changing industry.

Key tasks:

  • Lead the Windsor Morning radio team and collaborate with the greater CBC Windsor newsroom

  • Pitch, research, write and produce original story ideas that will engage and inform the audience.

  • Assign stories and guide their creation. Vet scripts, edit audio, and provide constructive feedback to the on-air team and other contributors to the show.

  • Deepen our community connections and elevate the voices of equity-deserving groups.

  • Plan and execute special series and remote shows

  • Occasionally present stories on-air, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.

  • Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, and coordinate long-term coverage.

  • Communicate with other producers and newsroom leaders and ensure radio content has a home on digital, television and streaming.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent with five years' experience in broadcast journalism, preferably related to radio and assignment.

  • Ability to assign, manage and motivate staff, coordinate with other departments in a productive manner, and mediate disagreements as they arise.

  • High-level knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism. Thorough understanding of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices

  • Demonstrated professional experience using various news platforms, including strong audio editing and storytelling experience.

  • Knowledge of multimedia journalism - including text, social and video.

  • Knowledge of and connection to equity-deserving communities across Windsor-Essex.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the value of diversity and cultivating an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Familiarity with live broadcasts, including ability to adapt to breaking and developing news.

  • Ability to generate original story ideas and creative treatments.

  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, multi-platform environment under tight deadlines.

  • A natural interest and curiosity in current and emerging technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

  • Flexibility in hours, including overtime, evenings and weekends.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
