job summary:

A Project Engineer is needed for a major U.S. defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing concentrations in weapons and military and commercial electronics in the Windsor Locks, CT area. This position will lead Engineering Integrated Project Teams in developing complex space system components like ATCS and ECLSS, employing advanced project management and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure successful execution and customer satisfaction.

responsibilities:

  • Lead Engineering Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) within the Deep Space Portfolio in Space Systems.

  • Receive direction from Engineering Leads in Lunar/Mars Transport Platforms, Orbital Platforms, or Surface Platforms.

  • Design and oversee components for Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) and Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) for Orion Spacecraft and Gateway Lunar Space Station modules (e.g., HALO).

  • Develop ATCS and ECLSS components for Exploration Command Module (Mars Transit Vehicle), Gateway Airlock, Gateway International Habitat (I-HAB), Lunar Landers, Pressurized Rover, and Lunar Infrastructure Power and Fuel Cells.

  • Utilize world-class project management processes including integrated scheduling, earned value management, and risk/opportunity management.

  • Collaborate with Engineering disciplines (Systems, Software, Mechanical, Electrical), Programs, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain to develop integrated execution plans meeting customer requirements.

  • Coordinate project tasks across functional organizations to ensure alignment with project objectives.

  • Track team's integrated execution performance and address execution problems to ensure project success.

  • Forecast project revenues, monitor costs, and adjust project cost estimates monthly to maximize profitability and meet business objectives.

  • Present plans and progress reports to track project progress and achievement of targets.

  • Manage demands of multiple projects effectively and work autonomously with minimal supervision.

  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for field returns and production issues.

  • Develop bids based on customer proposal requests.

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance project execution efficiency.

  • Promote superior ethical and professional behavior in all aspects of work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MA/MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or MBA degree.

  • Experience in designing, developing, and qualifying space-qualified ECLSS, thermal management, or similarly complex electro-mechanical systems.

  • strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize daily issues, and strategize longer-term projects.

  • Superior interpersonal and influencing skills, including coaching and mentoring.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Windchill, and other relevant computer skills.

  • Comfortable presenting to internal and external customers.

  • Commitment to leadership and improving IPT performance.
