Town Of Windsor Forestry Maintenance Technician in Windsor, Colorado

Hiring Range: $20.97 - $22.82 hourly

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm some weekends and holidays

NATURE OF WORK As a member of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Division, individuals in this position performs semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the urban forest including the use of hand tools, power tools and various equipment. Most positions require that the individual work Monday through Friday, which may also require weekend and evening hours on a regular or occasional basis. This part time employment may be scheduled through the year on a part time, 28-hour per week basis, depending on the needs of the Town. This position is not to exceed 1,456 hours. Individuals in the position are required to perform work in a manner consistent with and exemplary of the Town's PRIDE philosophies and the Town's Equal Opportunity Employment Policy.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Individuals work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Town Forester to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.

SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The individual in the Forestry Laborer role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the Town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation. The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Repairs irrigation systems, inspects for leaks and assures water timing is appropriate so as to not interfere with public usage of parks and open spaces. Plants, cares for, and protects trees by assuring proper location, area supplies root and canopy space and the appropriate soil quality & water supply. Assist with measuring and marking trees and collects data on tree conditions Performs maintenance at tree nursery that includes all tree maintenance functions Assists with identifying defective trees such as diseased and insect damaged trees and shrubbery Assists with hazard tree analysis. Reports trees that are hazardous, (hanging branches and fallen tree limbs) Ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to. Performs related work as required and assigned. Conducts tree inventories Completes reports as necessary Performs pre and post inspections on vehicles and equipment

OTHER DUTIES Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following: The Forestry Maintenance Technician position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check. Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc. Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town. Assists other town departments/divisions, as necessary.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED Experience and education in landscaping, arboriculture, forestry and related fields are preferred but not required

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES Must have a current Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor's standards. ISA and/or CLT certification preferred but not required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to safely operate various forestry and parks related equipment and tools Knowledge of basis plant maintenance Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Windsor and the department. Ability to deal tactfully and effectivel with the public. Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures. Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations. Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods. Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description.
