Town Of Windsor Civil Engineer II in Windsor, Colorado

Hiring Range: $74,668 - $82,135 annually

Work Schedule: Generally 40 or more hours per week; typical schedule is Monday Friday 8 am 5 pm, position may involve nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

NATURE OF WORK The Civil Engineer II will work with a team of Civil Engineers as well as other staff members of the Engineering Division. This is the journey-level class in the professional engineering series. This class differs from Civil Engineer I in that individuals perform the full range of general engineering duties as assigned.

Individuals in this position will, under general supervision, perform civil engineering work for the Town of Windsor. The individual will design, develop, review, and coordinate all municipal construction projects assigned. The individual will align with the Division s strategy, mission, and vision by coordinating all civil engineering aspects of public improvements for the town. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Under the guidance, policy direction, and supervision of the Director of Engineering, the Civil Engineer II works to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED The individual in the Civil Engineer II role does not supervise town employees directly. However, the individual in this role may oversee work performed by a variety of contractors, including legal and engineering contractors engaged in efforts on behalf of the town. The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Has thorough knowledge of the town s infrastructure and makes valuable recommendations for capital improvement priorities. Knowledge of infrastructure construction materials and methods and ability to effectively communicate with construction personnel and manage projects. Engineering design and/or management of town infrastructure projects, including accurate record keeping and compliance with rules and regulations of outside funding agencies, if applicable. Communicates clearly and appropriately with the public (using good customer service and problem-solving skills) and in various other forums (reports, memos, meetings with contractors, developers, and board meetings). Accurately analyzes data from different surveys and reports (i.e., traffic studies, parking, grading certificates) to make recommendations (reports) for action, in-action, or direction as requested. Manage special projects as assigned (i.e., Pavement Management, Federal Grants Applications, Flood Plain Management, Drainage, Master Utility Plan, etc.) which includes all tracking, record keeping, recommendations, and administration. Reviews designs submitted by private developers and/or technical consultants for compliance with the town s approved standards, generally accepted engineering standards, and previously approved subdivision grading plans. Conducts site inspections. Monitors and ensures compliance with the approved engineering plans and specifications on assigned projects. Responsible for coordinating the resolution of conflicts when th construction plans are not in accordance with the criteria or existing field conditions. Works effectively, respectfully, and efficiently with developers and/or technical consultants to revise project designs to achieve compliance with the standards referenced above. Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town. Ensure that all safety regulations and policies are understood. OTHER DUTIES Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following: The Civil Engineer II position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check. Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc. Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town. Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING

Two (2) years of experience as a Civil Engineer I for the Town of Windsor; or 3 - 5 years or more of progressively responsible civil engineering experience (i.e., experience in urban street design, water distribution, or storm drainage design and development review, preferably in an urban municipal environment.) comparable to that of a Civil Engineer I for the Town of Windsor. Bachelor s degree in Engineering or a closely related field required. Master s Degree preferred. Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
