PowerSecure is searching for a Controls Design Engineer II. The Controls Design Engineer II are to provide the electrical/controls design on product improvements for electrical/controls infrastructure of our manufactured product lines as well as coordinate site wide drawings as applicable per site/project. These design activities are to provide assurance that our equipment/sites/projects are being built and/or applied per engineering documents, manufacturing, and other required standards, such as UL and NEC. The main goal is the safety, quality, functionality, and overall conformity of our products. This position’s work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex to complex aspects of a project. May supervise and guide lower-level Controls Designers/Control Design Engineers.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):
Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, electrical preferred.
3+ years of related experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as: construction drawings, construction specifications, single lines, product manuals, sequence of operations, control drawings, work instructions, written directions, and markups to electrical/control drawings.
Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills with a desire for continuous improvement.
Detail-oriented, accurate, and have a positive can-do attitude.
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including collaborating with other teams.
Occasionally required to inspect products in-progress in manufacturing.
Occasionally assist in moving materials and equipment that weigh 40 lbs.
Proficient with 2-D [AutoDesk] AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent software.
Knowledgeable with UL, NEC, and NFPA 79 standards.
Proficient with MS Office applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Confirm and review construction drawings. Engineer should bring concerns to EPC and/or Operations team in a timely fashion to mitigate any potential delays.
Coordinate and communicate with other engineering groups, sales, marketing, and operations. Be an active participant in project meetings including handoff, release review, and design meetings as required with the necessary stakeholders.
If made aware of long lead material, notify appropriate personnel.
Create and verify the BoM (Bill of Materials). Coordinate with the SCADA team to ensure appropriate communication components are ordered. Coordinate with the Systems team to ensure appropriate communication components are ordered. Design is responsible for setting up Vault structure (folders, items, ECOs) and coordinating with Manufacturing Support.
Review and verify the drawing packages prior to submittal and release.
Ability to design electrical circuits for LV, MV, and DC applications ensuring compliance to common design standard.
Review Powered Electrical components and drawings. Including Fire Alarm drawings and Panel Schedules.
[AutoDesk] AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor, Vault and IFS.
Work on the electrical/control systems defined in the construction documentation or product specifications for the following.
Controllers, PLC, Woodward, HMIs, Switches, Industrial PCs, etc.
House Power. Transformer, Panel Board, distribution and conduit, receptacles, lights and switches, HVAC, and switchgear heaters. Interface with switchgear controls, Engine block heaters, alternator strip heaters, Gas Train electrical needs, etc.
DC Systems. Station Battery, Racks, consoles, chargers, DC panel Boards and distribution details.
Special electrical/control needs such as Comms, gas leak detection, ventilation, fire detection and alarm interface to controls.
Develop document set; including BOM, schematics, wire/conduit schedules, and other drawing details that will ensure the safe and efficient installation of this equipment.
Identify and execute processes that reduce the overall cost to manufacture, install and operate our products.
Ensure schedules and milestone dates are achieved in the ERP system. Provide feedback to Engineering Manager if issues arise.
Prepare engineering drawings from sketches, verbal descriptions, specifications, and technical information.
Available to work 40 hours and overtime when needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Occasionally assist in moving materials and equipment that weigh 40lbs.
Primarily office environment with the exceptions of manufacturing shop visits.
