Ferno-Washington, Inc Electrical Engineer in Wilmington, Ohio

Description:

This position supports FERNO's Engineering Department in Wilmington, OH with emergency pre-hospital patient handling products. Primary responsibilities include the design and implementation of PCBAs, firmware, harnesses, displays, electrical assemblies and components.

The Electrical Engineer will work closely with functional and cross functional team members in the global company including those in engineering, operations/production, product management, service, quality, and regulatory departments. The Electrical Engineer will be accountable for new product development and may be responsible for various portions of product development, product sustaining, quality assurance and manufacturing activities.

The Electrical Engineer will work autonomously with support from other engineers to ensure reliable electrical assemblies as part of a growing platform of powered EMS products. The Electrical Engineer may work with functional leaders internal to FERNO, contract engineering firms, contract manufacturers, vendors, and field service providers.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary functions:

  • Develop and refine concepts for new product design through optimal technology selection to meet or exceed commercial requirements; exposure to and/or basic understanding of principles associated with electro-mechanical/hydraulic devices.
  • Project track record of product launches from concept to commercialization required; NPI experience a plus.
  • Design PCBAs including schematics, layouts, gerbers, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and all associated files required for manufacture and assembly.
  • Altium Designer experience required; Solidworks and Solidworks PDM experience preferred.
  • Ability to code with Visual Studio Code in C and C++ for embedded software and firmware.
  • Design and/or develop specifications for DC motor control systems, motors, LiFePO4 batteries, ST and PIC microcontrollers, wireless communications, displays, and human interfaces.
  • Ability to choose material selections based on mating components, such as connectors, sensors, harnesses, EMC shielding, vibration resistance, and enclosures in 3D space.
  • Ability to troubleshoot test, validation, and qualification equipment.
  • Ability to produce well written technical descriptions, procedures, and instructions for internal and external process controls.
  • Experience with medical devices and/or ISO 13485 a plus; design/re-design of FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, MDD 93/42/EEC, MDR compliant products.
  • Ability to guide team members with appropriate test methods and design validation activities.
  • Familiarity with IEC, UL, UN, CSA, CE, and EN electrical and regulatory standards preferred.
  • Participate in Engineering Change Order and/or Phase-Gate processes for assigned programs to include QMS compliance.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (preferred)
  • Degrees in other disciplines will be considered depending on experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

PHYSICAL/SAFETY/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Job demands include prolonged sitting, may need to stoop, bend and stand as appropriate
  • Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot
  • Meets cognitive demands to include visual discrimination/memory, auditory discrimination/memory reading ability, independent decision making and retention of specific knowledge.
  • Requires use of safety glasses in designated areas
  • Ability to travel locally 5-10%
