The Auditing Department assists the Mayor and City Council in the fulfillment of their fiduciary responsibilities by independently examining the Citys internal control systems to determine whether adequate controls exist. This ensures the accomplishment of the Citys objectives in an effective and efficient manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\ The senior Auditor assists the City with achieving its financial and operational objectives, determines the financial and operational objectives of major City transaction cycles, and identifies the risks that threaten achieving those objectives. Reports to the auditing manager. Additional responsibilities include:\ \ This expert-level professional position collaborates with all levels of employees within the various city departments.\ \ Formally documents major City transaction cycles and determines if internal controls have been established to mitigate the risks needed to achieve the objectives of those cycles.\ \ Evaluates, through observation, inquiry, and testing, the effectiveness and efficiency of the Citys internal control systems.\ \ Writes audit reports, which include findings, recommendations, and management responses to improve the Citys systems of control.\ \ Works closely with all levels of management to ensure productive audits.\ \ Conducts audits and performs all related audit work as required.\ \ May act as an In Charge auditor, which includes planning the audit, supervising and reviewing the work of other auditors, writing the audit report, and participating in the opening and closing conferences.\ \ Plays major role in helping the City Auditor develop the annual risk-based internal audit plan, which is presented to the Audit Review Committee on an annual basis.\ \ Assists the City of Wilmington in achieving its financial, operational and compliance objectives.\ \ Determines the financial and operational objectives of the major City transaction cycles, as well as the risks that threaten the achievement of those objectives.\ \ Evaluates, through observation, inquiry and testing, the effectiveness and efficiency of the Citys systems of internal control.\ \ Performs special projects at the direction of the City Auditor.\ \ On a quarterly basis monitors and reports on the status of outstanding management action plans as well as presents current audit reports to the Audit Review Committee.\ \ All duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\ All selected applicants must pass a criminal background investigation and pre-employment physical.\ \ frequently required to sit, talk, and listen in a normal office environment.\ \ occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.\ \ Location and Schedule Work hours are Monday to Friday and range between 8:30am - 4:30pm based on business needs. The position works in the Auditing department at the City/County building 800 N. French Street, 5th Floor, Wilmington DE 19801.\ TOTAL COMPENSATION\ \ New employees are hired at the starting salary up to median salary/ step four based on qualifications and internal equity within the classification.
