Dow has an exciting opportunity for aResearch & Development Maintenance Engineerlocated inWilmington, DEsupporting Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics and Hydrocarbon (PSP&H) high pressure polyethylene business.

The R&D Maintenance Engineer provides engineering support to address pilot plant issues that are impacting the facility operation. In this role the engineer provides technical expertise which may be equipment based or repair technique based in addressing the pilot plant issues while delivering maximum value and improving process research efficiency.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as a subject matter expert in equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.

  • Develops maintenance operating discipline for the facility.

  • Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.

  • Work with Maintenance coordinator and other personnel to plan and execute routine plant shutdowns and conduct required maintenance activities.

  • Collaborate with equipment manufacturer as necessary to resolve technical problems.

  • Supports the maintenance coordinator in reviewing spare parts list for existing equipment.

  • Ensures repairs, repair techniques and equipment specific training are documented and made available.

  • Provides engineering input for work packages to ensure standards are followed, as required.

  • Provides equipment reliability and performance data for input into equipment purchasing requirements, evaluation of equipment performance, vendor performance, and modifications to MET.

  • Participates in developing the maintenance budget to support the maintenance strategy.

  • Analyzes impact of equipment failures on maintenance spending to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Drives knowledge exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities for the technology.

  • Participates in Root Cause Investigation's for unplanned events and ensures effective implementation without repeat failures.

  • Develops and provide training in the Maintenance discipline.

  • Participates in the on-call program for plant immediate response and advising similar to other day support roles.

Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering

  • ​Operations/plant experience is a plus

  • Experience in maintenance, reliability, rotating equipment, equipment troubleshooting, failure investigation, leading projects and budgeting for expenditures is a plus
