Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. Building Enclosure Consultant in Willoughby, Ohio

*Responsibilities: *

  • Conducting field assessment and preparing project deliverables, including, proposals, reports, technical specifications and repair details of different roofing systems.
  • Overseeing variable aspects of projects, such as project schedule, deliverables, fees, and invoicing, and provide direct assistance to ensure timely project execution.
  • Productively interacting with client representatives and SME subcontractors.
  • Collaborating with group to develop practical recommendations for the client.
  • Helping to enhance the visibility of SME's expertise. In this regard, your participation in professional organizations outside of your regular employment is encouraged.
  • Working with junior level staff to perform day-to-day project tasks.
  • Contribute to company-wide objectives through involvement in office and company development activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

*Requirements: *

  •  Minimum seven (7) years of experience in the design, construction, investigation, and development of technical reports and repair project documents of various new and existing building enclosure systems.
  • As minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Science, or related field.
  • Technical experience in detailing of various building enclosure elements as well as detailing the interfaces between different building enclosure systems such as: facades, curtain walls, fenestrations, glazing systems, sealants and coatings, insulation, air barriers, weather barriers, cladding assemblies, low-slope roofing, steep-slope roofing, below-grade waterproofing, and plaza/terrace waterproofing, etc.
  • Excellent technical, written, graphical and verbal communication skills.
  • Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), IIBEC Registered Building Enclosure Consultant (RBEC), or Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (CBECxP).
  • Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team, as well as the desire for continuous learning.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and adapt to challenges.
  • Physical Requirements: 
    • Ability to safely use and operate ladders and stairs, scaffolds, lifts and other equipment to access roofs and go inside existing or under-construction buildings recording the necessary field data to produce construction documents for roofing system and other building enclosure elements and materials.
    • Ability to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites.
    • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work from heights, work in tight spaces, and work in inclement weather.
    • Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
    • Medically fit to use a respiratory protective device and other personal protective equipment.  
    • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

- - Previous consulting firm experience. - Experience with building science and performance evaluation, including condensation control, ventilation and moisture vapor movement.
