This position, situated within the Northeast Region, focuses on the engineering review of permits. The specialist will play a crucial role in overseeing projects aimed at enhancing drinking water infrastructure, which are financed through the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In the role of an Environmental Engineering Trainee, you will engage in a comprehensive one-year training program that combines formal education with practical, on-the-job experience, aimed at equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge required to fulfill the responsibilities of an Environmental Engineering Specialist.

This role is designated as an engineering position situated in the Northeast Region. It entails working in conjunction with the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water Management to oversee and manage projects aimed at enhancing drinking water infrastructure. The responsibilities include assisting in the evaluation of Public Water System (PWS) permit applications that comply with Chapter 109, the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Regulations, and the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Act, particularly for those PWS seeking financial support through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) or the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIN). Additionally, the position involves reviewing feasibility studies, corrective action plans, funding requests, change orders, engineering designs, specifications, and contract documents for projects that are applying for BIL or WIIN funding. You will be expected to utilize engineering principles and conduct thorough evaluations to formulate recommendations, foster productive working relationships between the regional office and the central office, prepare detailed engineering reports, and provide guidance to consultants and the regulated community.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,861.00 (before taxes). Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists;or A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering.
