Duke Energy Line Technician-Transmission Maintenance (Wildwood) in Wildwood, Florida

This is the top craft level of the Line progression hierarchy. A Lineman will assist and safely lead lower-level Apprentices and Groundmen in activities associated with line construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to have advanced technical and leadership skills and the ability to work independently and lead medium to large construction and maintenance activities. Capable of serving on committees and resolving advanced technical matters. Minimum travel required.
Line Technician performs the following with Minimal Supervision and Increased Latitude for Un-Reviewed Work:
Demonstrate a complete understanding of company safety rules and work practices.
Demonstrate a complete understanding of Human Performance practices.
Exhibits the capacity to safely lead small jobs and work independent of direct leadership.
Advanced understanding of the processes needed to organize construction and maintenance work and create over all implementation/maintenance plans.
Advanced understanding of the processes needed to methodically/logically organize line work activities.
Advanced understanding of the processes needed to operate bucket, digger derrick truck, pressure digger, backhoe, forklift, wire stringing equipment, and other aerial devices.
Ability to respond to all call outs.
Advanced understanding of limitations, never assumes, and will STOP to seek help.
Experience leading complex maintenance or construction projects.
Advanced understanding of regulatory compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned work.
Has the experience to complete the requirements for Switching and Tagging on the Transmission system.
Advanced understanding of the processes needed to complete maintenance/construction activities on all line equipment.
Demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend and complete construction activities as stated in the engineering work order plans and profiles.
Demonstrates superior verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting on transmission class equipment.
Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment.
Ability to frequently climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights.
Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat.
Ability to distinguish colors.

Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression
Demonstrated availability for after- hour’s and call out work
Advanced technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. Frequently leads others
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities with internal and external customers
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Provides coaching and mentors other employees
Provides high level of leadership and sets a positive example for others to follow.
Basic Requirements:
Valid CDL Class A Driver’s License with Tractor/Trailer and Tank vehicle endorsements.
High School diploma or equivalent and minimum 5 years of Transmission or Distribution substation maintenance or construction experience or equivalent job-related and educational experience
Desired Qualifications:
Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.
Attaining Level 3 Crane operator Certification
Specific Requirements:
Ability to pass any required background check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear
Ability to lift and carry 75lbs.
Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Advanced written and oral communication skills
Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces.
Demonstrated ongoing leadership skills development.
Must be available for minimum travel.
Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job.
Must live within 60 minutes of the assigned Operations Center and within the service area
This position requires successful completion of the VAL and PAT tests.
