Summary

To manage the Maintenance team including HR tasks and allocation of work. To undertake project work under the direction of the Engineering manager. Responsible for completing planned, preventative and reactive maintenance tasks and improvement work using effective problem-solving and trouble shooting. To provide feedback on completed tasks, root cause and follow-up work.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the allocation of maintenance tasks to members of the maintenance team

  • Responsible for the line management of the maintenance team including disciplinary, absence management, performance appraisal etc

  • To ensure that available members of the maintenance team attend all break-downs and take the necessary action to minimise down-time

  • To undertake project work as directed by the Engineering Manager

  • Ensure the implementation of a planned maintenance schedule

  • Plan and prioritise own work to ensure that tasks are completed on time in line with Company objectives.

  • Undertake engineering audits of all equipment in order to identify and quantify causes of inefficiencies / poor performance and identify potential solutions.

  • Contribute to site asset condition register to assist in identifying areas for investment

  • Identify needed parts, supplies and repair items

  • Raise purchase orders for parts as required

  • To liaise with contractors to arrange attendance on-site as necessary and also be their on-site contact. Ensure contractor compliance with site security, policies and procedures as required

  • To ensure that the maintenance workshop is kept in order and carries sufficient stock of essential parts / equipment to undertake routine maintenance repairs

  • Must demonstrate a flexible approach to work to ensure that break-downs are resolved in a timely manner

  • Attend call-outs as required including during evenings and weekends

    Qualifications/ Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment

  • Experience of managing a maintenance team

  • Formal electrical or mechanical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent e.g. HND/HNC

  • Electrical & Mechanical knowledge (with manufacturing bias)

  • Experience of pneumatics

  • Mechanical engineering experience

  • PLC systems awareness

  • Ability to analyse and solve complex problems

  • Flexible in approach and attitude to work

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and on own initiative

  • Able to work on own initiative to plan and organise work in line with business priorities

  • Able to work calmly and effectively when under pressure

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Competent IT skills including outlook, windows and excel

  • Excellent organisational skills
