Aston Carter Human Resources Generalist in Whittier, California
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and professional Human Resources Generalist to support and enhance the day-to-day HR functions, with a particular focus on payroll, benefits administration, compliance, employee relations, and union interactions. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of HR processes while aligning with the organization’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Systems and Reporting:
Assist in developing and maintaining a human resources system that provides accurate, timely data to management.
Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting key HR metrics and issues.
Represent the company in personnel-related hearings and investigations.
Ensure personnel records are accurate and up to date, following proper procedures for retention, protection, and disposal.
Payroll and Benefits Administration:
Provide backup support for payroll processing, including bi-weekly and weekly payroll cycles.
Ensure accuracy of timekeeping and payroll data, and assist with auditing timecards and correcting discrepancies.
Collaborate with payroll teams (e.g., UKG Dimensions, ADP) for system maintenance and reporting.
Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, 401(k), FMLA, and other leave programs.
Assist with annual benefits enrollment and coordinate changes to coverage.
Employee Relations and Compliance:
Serve as a resource for employees and management regarding HR policies, state and federal employment laws, and labor contracts.
Investigate employee complaints and concerns, working to resolve issues in a fair and timely manner.
Advise on union-related matters, including grievance handling and compliance with labor agreements.
Assist in maintaining compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Recruiting and Onboarding:
Support recruitment efforts, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and onboarding of new hires.
Facilitate employee orientations to ensure a positive onboarding experience.
Assist with offboarding processes for departing employees, including exit interviews and documentation.
Training and Development:
Coordinate employee training sessions and assist with ongoing professional development.
Support the HR team in the implementation of employee recognition and engagement programs.
Other HR Duties:
Track employee attendance and manage time-off requests (vacation, sick leave, FMLA).
Provide backup for the HR Clerk and assist in professional development as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
3-5 years of progressive experience as an HR Generalist, with a strong emphasis on payroll, compliance, and employee relations.
SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred.
Experience working in a unionized environment is highly desirable.
Proficiency with HRIS, payroll systems (UKG Dimensions, ADP, Kronos), and Microsoft Excel.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
