UW - WHITEWATER Assistant Professor - Computer Science in WHITEWATER, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: JOB ID: 20281 ATTENTION: The Department of Computer Science in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a federally designated Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) institution, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in cybersecurity, networking, or related areas beginning August 2024 (FA040). This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in our cybersecurity and computer science programs. JOB DETAILS: The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Cybersecurity B.S. and M.S. programs as well as the Computer Science B.S. and M.S. programs. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in areas such as cryptography, digital forensics, information privacy, intrusion detection, system and software security, computer organization, computer networking, or cloud computing. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate and graduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, university, profession, and society. Finally, the candidate will be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of inclusivity in the classroom and as a member of the university community. RESPONSIBILITIES: Full-time teaching responsibilities include teaching a variety of courses and supervision of undergraduate internships or graduate capstone projects, depending on the candidate\'s interests and experience as well as the department\'s needs. Specific courses may include introduction to cybersecurity, cryptography and network security, web security, digital forensics, intrusion detection, cloud computing and security, computer organization, and computer networking. Standard teaching load in the department is 12 credits per semester; research grants or other external funding may be used to reduce this teaching load, subject to department and college approval. Research expectations include publishing in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and grant writing. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage undergraduate and graduate students in research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the department, college, and university levels, along with service to the profession and community as appropriate to the candidate\'s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online, and hybrid. Teaching will also occasionally occur during the evening. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2024; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2 25 in advance of their first scheduled review. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate and graduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, and willingness to serve as an active member of the university community Desired Qualifications: Expertise in one or more areas of growth or need within the department, including cybersecurity, information privacy, computer/wireless networking, or other related areas. Cybersecurity work experience in industry, government, or military settings. Record of successful teaching experience and/or professional development in teaching, especially in teaching undergraduate students and/or in teaching fully online. Ability to involve undergraduate and graduate students in research. Interest in introducing or developing activities that will broaden participation of students from underrepresented groups in computing.
