UNICOM Science & Technology Park Senior Infrastructure Engineer - IBM Power in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey

UNICOM is seeking an experienced Senior IBM Power Infrastructure Engineer to join its GIS team. This role sits within UNICOM Systems division responsible for supporting Power 10, 9 and 8 systems for developers. The candidate should thrive on being a member of a fast moving and respected Infrastructure team. The successful candidate should be passionate about best practice within the IBM Power environment and driven to expand their knowledge. Specific Duties• Monitor availability of Power infrastructure (HMC, Server, VIOS, IBM i lpars, AIX lpars, Linux lpars)• Monitor for and resolve hardware failures• Monitor for and resolve network issues• Monitor for and resolve software issues• Business continuity (ensure backup integrity, regularly test recoverability for HMC, VIOS, IBM i lpars, AIX lpars, Linux lpars)• Install, configure, decommission Power servers• Create, configure and decommission VIOS• Create, configure and decommission lpars (IBM i, AIX, Linux)• Regular patching / PTF applies (HMC, server firmware, adapter firmware, VIOS, IBM i lpars, AIX lpars, Linux lpars)• Upgrades (HMC, server firmware, adapter firmware, VIOS, IBM i OS, AIX OS, Linux OS)• Capacity planning (sizing next Power server)• Storage management (Storage Area Network (SAN) design and administration, array management)• PowerVM administration• Facilitate and implement environments and scenarios as requested by development and support teams• Keep up to date with industry trends, new features etc.• Liaise with others in the business and assist with other projects from time to time, as required by UNICOM Systems Documentation/Business Continuity planKnowledge/Skills/ExperienceEssential:• Two years in a support systems Engineer role (or equivalent)• Excellent organizational skills• Good communication skills both written and verbal• Professional telephone and written manner• Good knowledge of at least two platforms e.g. Windows, Linux, UNIX• Working knowledge of database technology, in particular one of Oracle, SQL Server or DB2• Proven problem solving ability• Self-motivated and flexible • Proven ability to meet critical business deadlinesDesirable• IT degree or similar (other higher technical qualifications will be considered)Equal Employment Opportunity Policy: UNICOM shall recruit, hire, train, and promote in all job titles without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), national origin, ancestry, age, physical or mental disability or handicap, legally protected medical condition, family care status, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law.
