Overview

The manager provides oversight of Supervisors in SSO maintenance. The manager provides leadership and managerial direction, oversight, and controls for the safe, timely, and efficient installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of equipment within Substation Operations. The manager ensures that all projects utilize human resources economically and efficiently to adhere to schedules and minimize equipment downtime. The position will encompass managing direct reports and ensuring personal development. The manager maintains direct lines of communication with appropriate company organizations and coordinates with all project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely and consistent with procedures, specifications, and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Adheres to Company policies and ensures all work is conducted without injury or illness to company employees, vendors, and the general public. Must be aware of and comply with all pertinent laws and company rules, policies, and work practices. Additionally, requires awareness and compliance from direct reports and all other employees and contractors for whom they have responsibility.
  • Assures capital projects, (load relief, system reliability and equipment replacements and repairs, etc.) CM, FM, PM, DT and all facility work is coordinated, planned, scheduled, and executed to meet completion dates and appropriated costs, along with monitoring and reporting on project schedules and current working estimates (CWE) to ensure the reliability of equipment, by driving work to maintain and operate our stations.
  • Closely monitors and timely completes all assigned compliance related work involving substation facilities and equipment.
  • Ensures that Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools and Stuff That Kills You (STKY) wheel are incorporated into all daily work activities to prevent high hazard injuries.
  • Coaches, supports, mentors, and provides subject matter expertise and stretch assignments for the development of their direct reports.
  • Administers and communicates appropriate procedures, engineering plans, and specifications to supervisors to ensure the proper construction, repair, restoration, and operation of substation equipment. Prepares emergency equipment restoration and repair plans.
  • Reviews preliminary scoping documents, appropriation estimates, construction specifications, and drawings to ensure constructability, clarity, and feasibility as related to costs and scheduling.
  • Able to hold the appropriate Delegation of Authority for their respective Area Manager.
  • Is a subject matter expert on substation construction, maintenance, or operations with a detailed understanding of associated procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Establishes productivity standards, monitors performance on the basis of these standards, and reports and advises on the compliance with standards.
  • Monitors administrative requirements to ensure the timely handling of workloads, minimization of backlogs, utilization of Engage, accuracy of employee time card approval while relentlessly pursuing 100% compliance.
  • Coordinates, controls, and reinforces supervisory activities associated with availability and timely delivery of materials, supplies, spare parts, and equipment.
  • Initiates procurement of special equipment, materials, and vendor support, as needed.
  • Manages requirements and preparation of assigned area annual XM budget submittal.
  • Ensures all compliance, regulatory, and other required training for themselves, as well as for their direct and indirect reports, is attended and satisfactorily completed on time.
  • Supports the investigation of any applicable operating errors, safety infractions (RWLB, OSHA injuries, and/or motor vehicle collisions) as well as encouraging the capturing of any Close Calls or HPI improvements.
  • Partners with EH&S organization to manage and support applicable environmental compliance information in conjunction with station supervisors for EH&S related Maximo compliance items, walk-through of substations in advance of audits, as well as follow-up to audits.
  • Ensures fostering of diverse and inclusive work environment, developing a safe and effective team culture while providing +1 customer service.
  • Enforces Maintenance compliance of physical security at substation facilities as required by North American Reliability Council (NERC) and promote awareness to provide for a secure environment.
  • Ensures coordination with Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Operations, EH&S, and other groups in development and execution of project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinates on a regular basis with other Managers in Capital Construction, Maintenance and Operations. Shares resources as needed to accomplish emergent work as well as budget goals.
  • Identifies best practices and lessons learned from O&M projects and continually improve work processes.
  • Makes presentations on Capital Construction and O&M projects as required, and at the executive level.
  • Ensures that appropriate notifications for project delays, injuries and other significant events pertaining to maintenance are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Conducts field visits and inspections of O&M projects.
  • Provides feedback from a field perspective to act as a liaison to TLC staff.
  • Trains new supervisors on the core responsibilities.
  • Enforces administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 8 years work experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 7 years work experience. or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 6 years work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 6 years work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • 2 years In FOP title Required
  • 2 years Experience directly supervising employees. Required
  • 7 -9 years of extensive knowledge and experience with the installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment. Required
  • Supervisory experience. Required
  • Must possess strong decision-making skills and strong communication skills. Required
  • The ability to work effectively with others in a cross-departmental platform is a must. Required
  • Experience delivering Job Briefing and performing JSSEs. Required
  • Extensive knowledge of SSO's GEI's and Substation Operating Procedures as well as the Maximo/Engage Work Management System. Required

  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
  • Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Use personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle. Acknowledge that reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
