If you are a detail-oriented professional looking for an opportunity to advance your career while utilizing your knowledge in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant, we have the job for you! The Department of Human Services, White Haven Center, is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to provide an environmentally safe disposal of White Haven Center's wastewater and sludge. This position is part of the White Haven Center stay-behind maintenance team and will remain operational after the facility's closure.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will provide the proper settling, biological oxidation, digestion and disinfection of the center's wastewater and sludge by reading meters and gauges. You will also operate the skimmers, scum breaker, sludge pump, filters, digester, and chlorinator. You will conduct laboratory monitoring and record keeping to produce a wastewater effluent sufficient to meet requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit issued by the Department of Environmental Resources.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel and overtime as needed
  • Work schedule will include rotating weekends and holidays for daily testing.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee (commonwealth title) program and certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant; or
  • Possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant. 

     

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent. 
  • You must possess a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification Wastewater System Operators (Class C, Subclass 2 or higher). 

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
