Oneida Technical Solutions Systems Administrator - Journeyman in Wharton, New Jersey

We are currently bidding on a contract providing support to the Picatinny NEC in improving the functionality of the overall delivery of Information Technology Services (ITS) and Administrative Telephone Services (ATS) on Picatinny Arsenal.

Job Title: Journeyman Systems Administrator

Location: Picatinny Arsenal

Job Overview:

As a Journeyman Systems Administrator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security, availability, and efficiency of our IT infrastructure. You will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and protection of our systems and networks. This position requires an in-depth understanding of system administration, security practices, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. You will work closely with senior administrators, security teams, and other IT personnel to implement and maintain secure and reliable systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Administration:

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, applications, and system management tools.

  • Ensure the highest levels of system and infrastructure availability.

  • Security Management:

  • Implement and manage security measures to protect systems and data.

  • Monitor security alerts and respond to incidents in accordance with established procedures.

  • Apply patches and updates to systems to mitigate vulnerabilities.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational and industry security standards.

  • User Support:

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users and other IT staff.

  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in accordance with best practices.

  • System Optimization:

  • Analyze system performance data and recommend improvements to enhance system efficiency.

  • Implement automation scripts and tools to improve system administration tasks.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of systems, processes, and procedures.

  • Prepare and present reports on system performance, incidents, and compliance status.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other IT teams to integrate new technologies and solutions.

  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce security policies and procedures.

    Qualifications:

  • Education:

  • A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution fulfills the educational requirement for this WRC

  • Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in systems administration or a related role.

  • Hands-on experience with various operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Unix).

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).

  • Certifications:

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or similar are preferred.

  • Required certifications - A+ or CND or Network+

  • Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of system security practices and technologies.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies.

  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
