Carollo Engineers Water/Wastewater Engineering Intern in Westminster, Colorado

The split internship will offer exposure to both public works and utility engineering and operations, as well as engineering consulting focused on the municipal water and wastewater resource recovery industry.
This internship posting will hire one intern for the split internship with Westminster, and one intern who will work just for Carollo.

In this internship, you will work on projects related to municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, including but not limited to daily operations and engineering for a vibrant water utility; engineering support for the planning, design, and construction of water infrastructure; water quality studies; and critical water reuse projects that create sustainable and resilient water supplies for the world.
The City of Westminster Public Works and Utilities Department is responsible for maintenance, operation, and capital improvements of Westminster’s $4 billion utility infrastructure. You will get to work with licensed P.E.’s with the utilities engineering group, certified water professionals who operate and maintain plant infrastructure, water quality laboratory staff, as well as superintendents and managers throughout the organization who lead and develop an outstanding workforce. Westminster has a reputation for innovative approaches to solving complex regulatory, process, or equipment challenges. The outcome of this internship will be participation in a project team and experience in designing an investigation into one of the following at the wastewater treatment plant:
Project teams:
American Public Works Association (APWA) accreditation
American Water Works Association (AWWA) Partnership for Clean Water Phase 4 implementation
Investigations:
Ferric chloride centrifuge dosing optimization for phosphorus removal in biosolids
Internal mixed liquor return sampling and process control program for filamentous bacteria mitigation and nitrate optimization

Responsibilities
Perform engineering work in various engineering fields (water and wastewater treatment, and engineering services during construction)
Assist with daily utility operations
Work on engineering designs
Check submittals for performance or conformity with plans and specifications
Assist with the preparation of reports and other deliverables
Data entry and analysis
Participate in field activities such as site investigations and pilot testing
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Finishing or completed junior year of college
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
This is a paid, temporary, non-benefitted internship working (6) weeks. Duration of the position not to exceed past September 2025.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Required:
The selected student/s must remain in good standing at both participating parties in the split internship.
Background checks will include employment references and criminal history and when applicable, credit check, driver's license record, education verification
Pre-employment drug screen
Must be legally entitled to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and/or coursework in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance
Previous related internship experience a plus, but not required
Passed or scheduled for the FE/EIT exam
Experience using CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Sketch Up)
Pay Range
$20.00 to $29.00 per hour dependent upon education, which is the specific factor in setting intern pay. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
