Job Level: Mid Level

Home District/Group: Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers

Department: Design Engineering

Market: Transportation

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Overview

The Concrete Engineer is a team member of Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE). This position’s primary role is to provide support, analysis, and design to Kiewit projects, and have a direct impact to other teams within the engineering district.

Project involvement of a concrete engineer can be at any stage (Get Work or Build Work) of a project’s life cycle. Get Work project tasks can include proposal development, Task Force participation, technical proposal design including alternative technical design concept (ATC), and proposal cost estimating support. Build Work project tasks can include Task Force participation, development of final designs including but not limited to concrete troubleshooting, development of project specifications, concrete mixes, testing procedures, preparations of thermal control plans, durability and service life engineering, construction engineering, and construction operations oversight.

Projects often rely on KIE technical resources, consultants, and/or subcontractors for staffing engineering related construction tasks. Typical project deliverables may include technical solutions, design reports, memorandums, and letters. These deliverables provide technical analysis, technical interpretations, and professional recommendations; all of these project deliverables are subject to KIE’s Design Quality Management Plan. Project deliverables may require field technical support with investigations and site visit observations during project construction.[O1]

Concrete Engineering is considered a “specialty” engineering service and as such has high visibility with Project upper management where high professionalism is always expected. Project related travel varies but it is projected to be approximately 25% and it can be anywhere in North America. Continued job related learning (Kiewit University, Professional Engineer Continued Education, personal professional development) is encouraged and expected.
