Per Diem Direct Support Professional (Westchester County)

About the Position

YAI is hiring Per Diem Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to work in several of our Westchester County locations. DSPs work closely with people of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The ideal candidate possesses a wide range of skills and is eager to promote YAI’s mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, love, work, and learn in their communities.  Depending on the supports needed, DSPs may work in a person’s home, in their family’s home, in a YAI residence, at a day habilitation center, or out in the community.

We are looking for compassionate and reliable people to join our team of dynamic individuals who every day choose to make a difference in the lives of others. All job-specific knowledge, strategies, and skills will be provided via YAI’s “best-in-class” training program. As Per diem, you have the flexibility to set your own schedule using a scheduling app downloaded to your phone. Choose the shifts/hours you want to work based on your timetable.

Whether you’re looking to make extra money, gain satisfaction in helping others, pursue a career in human services while going to school, or have other responsibilities prohibiting commitment to a fixed work schedule, consider being a Per diem Direct Support Professional at YAI. A commitment of 24 hours a month and completing monthly training videos is all that’s needed to start your journey.

Consider becoming a Per diem DSP at YAI. The rewards have no boundaries.

Schedule: Flexible (minimum of 24 hours per month)

Compensation: $16.50/hour to $18.00/hour (depending on experience)

Our Roots:

YAI was launched in February of 1957 out of a small school in Brooklyn, New York. Initially staffed by Co-Founders Bert MacLeech and Pearl Maze MacLeech alone, their pilot program served just seven people. According to Bert, from its very beginning YAI has been dedicated to providing innovative services for the I/DD (intellectual and/or developmental disabilities) community. MacLeech envisioned a, “total life adjustment approach, emphasizing personal growth, social responsibility, employment goals, and the development of independence for the individual.” At a time when institutional living was the norm for people with I/DD, this vision was nothing short of revolutionary.

YAI Today:

Today, YAI has a team of over 4,000 employees and supports over 20,000 people in the I/DD community. This extraordinary growth shows the ongoing need for these important services, and YAI’s success in offering them. YAI supports people with autism, Down syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy, among others. Operating throughout Downstate New York and Northern New Jersey, YAI now offers more than 300 programs for people of all ages.

Better Together:

At YAI, we are driven by our mission of living, loving, working, and learning. This applies not only to the people we support, but to our staff as well. Commitment and passion for the work continue to unite employees and drive the organization forward. Empowering the people we support to reach their goals remains at the heart of our organization.
