CITY OF WEST JORDAN Police Records Technician in WEST JORDAN, Utah

Full-time Police Records Technician needed for West Jordan City, Utah.

SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, to perform responsible, specialized clerical and computer data entry work in the preparation and maintenance of sensitive and confidential police records; and to communicate with police units

None.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Perform a wide variety of administrative support work including typing, proofreading, filing, coding, checking, and recording information on records.

• Perform data input of all pertinent information from hard copy reports to computerized information.

• Answer telephones; relay messages; receive and refer complaints; answer routine questions.

• Type and process criminal complaints, citations, warrants, police reports, and other related materials.

• Utilize computer to input and receive law enforcement and general administrative records and information.

• Receive and process GRAMA Request for department.

• Operate office equipment including word processors, computers, scanners, printers, calculator, and copy machines.

• Observe and monitor the public at the counter; respond to questions and routine requests for information; collect monies for public requests for reports and services.

• Enter, validate and update entries made on the NCIC system.

• Complete background checks electronically.

• Respond to officers' request for information.

• Process court ordered fingerprints.

• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or GED.

Experience: Two years of responsible clerical work. Spanish speaking desirable.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid Utah Driver's License

• Obtain and maintain UCJIS Certification within six months of employment in the position.

• Certify with State Archives Division as Records Officer within six months of employment in the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

• Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.

• Principles and procedures of record keeping.

• Basic mathematical procedures.

• English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.

Skill with:

• Operating modern office equipment including computer equipment and software.

• Typing and entering data at a speed necessary for successful job performance.

Ability to:

• Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

• Interact effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Respond to requests and inquiries from the public.

• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and data.

• Learn, interpret, and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to police records programs and functions.

• Learn police terminology and law enforcement codes.

• Learn alphabetical, numerical, and subject matter filing systems.

• Learn techniques used in public relations.

• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.

• Maintain and keep sensitive information confidential related to background information or personnel issues.

• Work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to accommodate after-hours training, citizen academy nights, and new employee testing.

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work in a standard office environment which includes reaching, bending, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, and listening.

Pay Range: $19.72 - $28.14/hr

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts
