SCHMIDT AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES LLC Farm Worker/Crop Laborer (Temporary) in WEST JORDAN, Utah

Temporary Need: 04/08/24 - 11/08/24. Four (4) full-time, seasonal, temporary Farm Workers/Crop Laborers needed. Work will perform at the following locations: West Jordan, Draper, South Jordan, Bluffdale, and Lehi, UT. Six (6) months any type of agricultural farm work experience is preferred. Training can be provided. Must be able to lift 45lbs. Will work 42 hrs/wk, Mon-Sat, wage is $16.85/hr. Duties: Duties will vary by season. Spring work includes field soil preparation, set up of irrigation systems which include laying down plastic pipe, filters, drip lines, and also cleaning of irrigation ditches, laying down plastic mulch for crop production etc.. Spring work also includes plant care in greenhouses. Such as growing seedlings in trays. Filling soil trays and containers with media, transplanting seedlings to bigger containers and placing on the ground or on racks. Watering plants in greenhouses by hose, weeding by hand around structures, moving plants from one growing area to another as the crop requires. Summer work includes field planting of both seeds, and seedlings from the greenhouse by and with machinery. Weeding crops with hand tools, irrigating crops and managing the various water schedules for different plots of land. Using backpack pump sprayers to control weeds in various spots around the farm. Harvest begins late summer and includes hand picking the various crops such as Tomatoes, Peppers, Corn, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Pumpkins, Squash, cucumbers, placing items in containers and loading onto trucks. Delivering and unloading produce at farm markets and other local delivery points. Fall clean up following the harvest includes pulling and moving irrigation lines for storage, pulling up plastic mulch and discarding in dumpsters. Storing supplies and equipment for the winter. Terms and Conditions of Employment: Tools, room, board, kitchen facilities and transportation provided at no cost to workers. Workers must be available for the entire work period. Workers are required to keep all property, housing, and farm buildings clean, and must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor; employee must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision; absences from work and/or failure to perform required tasks will not be tolerated. Must be able to provide employment eligibility documentation (I9 verification) upon hire. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer. If, before the expiration date specified in the work contract, the services of the worker are no longer required for reasons beyond my control due to fire, weather, or other Act of God that makes the fulfillment of the contract impossible, I may terminate the work contract. Whether such an event constitutes a contract impossibility will be determined by the CO. In the event of such termination of a contract, I must fulfill a three-fourths guarantee for the time that has elapsed from the start of the work contract to the time of its termination, as described in paragraph (!)(1) of section 20 CFR sec. 655.122(0). I must make efforts to transfer the worker to other comparable employment acceptable to the worker, consistent with existing immigration law, as applicable. If such transfer is not affected, I must: (1) R turn the worker, at my expense, to the place from which the worker (disregarding intervening employment) came to work for me, or transport the worker to the worker's next certified H- 2A employer, whichever the worker prefers; (2) Reimburse the worker the full amount of any deductions made from the worker's pay by me for transportation and subsistence expenses to the place of employment and (3} Pay the worker for any costs incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence to my place of employment. Daily subsistence must be computed as set forth in paragraph (h) of this section. The amount of the transportation payment must not be less (and is not required to be more) than the most economical and reasonable common carrier transportation charges for the distances involved ($15.46/day, maximum $59/day with receipts). The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed (or whicher is the highest rate). This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
