Job Details Pediatric Physician West Islip, NY * Full Time Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center West Islip, New York The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Catholic Health Good Samaritan Hospital located on Long Island in West Islip, New York is seeking a full-time Pediatric Critical Care Physician to join our team. Defined as a quality clinical and academic institution that sponsors multiple residency and fellowship training programs throughout the Catholic Health System, as well as supporting medical student education for students rotating from across the country we welcome applications from physicians looking for a professionally fulfilling career. Good Samaritan University Hospital is a 537-bed teaching hospital and a member of Catholic Health. Located approximately 40 miles from the heart of New York City, in West Islip, Long Island New York, it is surrounded by a rich culture and history offering a diverse palette of attractions and points of interests. Children benefit from some of the best school districts and recreational activities. From professional sports, white sandy beaches, water activities, museums, golf, hunting and camping to ice skating, cross-country skiing and sledding, whatever the season, Long Island has it all. Good Samaritan with almost 900 physicians on staff, and a level 2 pediatric trauma center cares for nearly 950,000 patients annually across the south shore of Long Island. We offer Suffolk County’s only free-standing Center for Pediatric Specialty Care with satellite centers open in Nassau County and additional expansion planned. Catholic Health children’s program provides services for the smallest patients through our Level III Neonatology Unit through adulthood. We also have a separate and designated Pediatric Emergency Department staffed 24/7 by physicians specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine. We are looking to add another Pediatric Hospitalist to our team of collaborative, caring career hospitalists. We cover a 20-bed pediatric floor as the attending physician on our resident-staffed teaching service. We work 12-hour shifts to provide 24/7 in-house coverage. The full span of pediatric subspecialists are available to us for in-house consultation and co-management. Our 6-bed PICU is staffed by Pediatric Intensivists, and our Pediatric ED is staffed 24/7 with Pediatric EM trained physicians. We also have a PEM fellowship. We are a Level II Trauma Center for Pediatrics, Level I for Adults. We care for a very diverse patient population with various pathologies. We have excellent nursing staff, which helps us deliver the best medical care around. In addition to the multiple pediatric specialists and pediatric surgical specialties supporting a robust inpatient unit, PICU and level III NICU, Good Samaritan additionally trains residents within their accredited pediatric residency training program and fellows in pediatric emergency medicine. This allows us to foster a team environment that is focused on evidence-based practice, continued learning and exceptional quality of care. As an integral member of our team, you will provide oversight and supervision of residents in training during rotations in Critical Care. You will have the opportunity to obtain an academic appointment commiserate with your expertise and training. Responsibilities: Participation in teaching of residents and medical students, including lectures, precepting and small group teaching. Providing supervision and mentoring to medical students, as well as the trainees enrolled within the Pediatric residency training and fellowship programs. Participation in continuing medical education programs as appropriate. Assisting in the development of research and performance improvement initiatives established by the Chair of the Department. Maintaining high standards and quality of care to the patients cared for. Promoting high quality, cost effective care based on the best medical evidence. Participating in data collection to assess patient care and satisfaction studies. Making best efforts to keep current with developments in pediatrics, medical management and related areas through CME programs, medical literature review and medical staff conferences Qualified candidates are those that are Board Certified or Eligible in Pediatric Critical Care.
