Description
The cost accountant is responsible for overseeing the management accounting and reporting processes and maintaining internal controls that reduce risk and validate the accuracy and completeness of the company’s financial statements. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, a team-first mentality, commitment to growth and developing others, and strong work ethic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Responsible for percentage of completion revenue recognition and working closely with operations.
Manage job costing of expenses ensuring accurate coding across the company.
Data analysis and process improvement related to company expenditures.
Develop and maintain standard cost rates that impact weekly job costing.
Collaborate effectively across corporate and operational leadership teams.
Ability to communicate clearly with executive leadership and operational personnel.
Issue timely and accurate financial statements on a weekly and monthly basis.
Ensure that general ledger account reconciliations are completed on a timely basis.
Maintain strong system of internal controls and orderly accounting system.
Maintain and document system of accounting policies and procedures.
Foster an environment of development and growth to accomplish goals and objectives.
Oversee area of responsibility in a manner consistent with the mission and values of the company.
Lead technological improvement projects to modernize the accounting and finance functions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
CPA or CMA, preferred
At least five years of experience with financial statement preparation and analysis
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Experience in service-based/project-based businesses, preferred
TECHNOLOGY, EQUIPMENT & TOOLS:
Experience with general ledger
Proficient with standard office equipment (i.e., computer, phones, scanner, fax and copier)
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and managerial or cost accounting
Effectively analyze and reconcile financial data with attention to detail
Ability to identify and assess risk and implement effective internal controls
Effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and leadership
Exercise sound judgement in performing subjective accounting analysis
Focus on value creation
Demonstrates customer service skills while being an effective business partner to operations
Possess strong administrative and analytical skills
Maintain confidentiality of all privileged information
Work independently and successfully as a team member

COMPENSATION: $70,000 - $85,000
Lewis Services regularly evaluates our compensation and benefit packages to ensure we remain competitive. Starting pay will be based on a candidate’s experience, skills and education.
