Job Title Marketing Communications Coordinator

Job Description

The SCC Marketing Communications Coordinator is responsible for producing content to market and communicate SCC’s mission and enhance its visibility and reputation. This person will promote the college’s programs, services and people to target audiences via timely news and information and will curate messaging across media channels that support the college’s marketing and communications objectives.

This position will report to the Director of Marketing.

The Marketing Communications Coordinator will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

This position is a full-time position (261-day contract); with an annual starting salary of $40,000.00. Benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid discretionary time, paid spring and holiday breaks, 15 days’ vacation and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Generate timely, engaging content for the College’s communications platforms, including website, social media, news releases, blogs, email, publications, and promotional materials using the available communications tools and systems. Measure and analyze effectiveness of efforts in order to adjust tactics and processes that continually improve our return on marketing investment.

Social Media and Website Management:

  • Develop and manage SCC’s social media strategy across platforms, currently Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn

  • Maintain a coordinated, dynamic web presence using SCC’s content management system ( CMS ), ensuring that content is timely, appropriate, accurate, functional, and consistent

  • Engage with followers and respond to inquiries in a timely manner

  • Monitor platform analytics to identify areas of opportunity and leverage tools to generate quality engagement and drive key audiences to action

  • Conduct regular website content audits and make relevant updates so that content remains accurate and impactful

  • Monitor and curate channel content, maintain community standards, and practice reputation management

  • Maintain cultural fluency to keep current with trends, topics, technology, and items of cultural relevance for SCC’s target markets

  • Research emerging platforms and technology, determine relevance for SCC’s target audience and communication objectives, adopt as appropriate

  • Newsgathering and Storytelling:

  • Research, develop and produce original, impactful stories and articles, and relevant marketing content that promote the college, students, staff, alumni, and stakeholders for general public and target audiences

  • Gather news and story content, including interviews, photos and video for College marketing and communications use, including coverage of college events and functions

  • Produce content appropriately tailored for consumption on SCC’s media channels, including website, social media, media releases, blogs, print publications, and collateral

Advertising and Promotional Copywriting:

  • Conduct and use target audience research to create compelling advertising and promotional messaging that drives engagement and achieves messaging goals

  • Collaborate with content experts (i.e. faculty, staff, students, alumni) to gather and understand key themes and talking points, use findings to develop persuasive promotional copy and messagin

  • Collaborate with team members to manage and optimize paid advertising campaigns using tools like Facebook Ads Manager and Google Ads, email, and the College’s customer relationship management system ( CRM ) to analyze effectiveness and ensure high engagement and ROI

General:

  • Work closely with appropriate College staff to ensure consistency of brand, information, and content across all channels

  • Keep current with communications technologies and tools, and stay up-to-date on related trends and best practices

  • Conduct training and provide support for content contributors following college guidelines, best practices, and standards for appropriate media

  • Work on a basis of “available as work demands” including mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight, off-site travel

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, English, or related field

  • Minimum of two years’ experience writing, editing, producing and organizing marketing and communications for public consumption

  • Strong understanding of how the written word, graphic design, photos, and videos are used to successfully achieve communication objectives

  • Competency in digital photography, video production, and Adobe Creative Cloud apps

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing social media business accounts

  • Experience creating content for digital media, including social media accounts, websites, email, and blogs

  • Experience using website content management systems and email marketing tools

  • Ability to interpret digital media analytics to address deficiencies and leverage opportunities

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

  • Knowledge of grammar and style, and strong attention to detail

  • Experience working in a collaborative, creative team environment with the ability to accept and give constructive criticism and direction

While this position requires a number of technical skills, the ideal candidate will be, first and foremost, an innovative, tech-savvy communicator, with superior writing, speaking, and visual communication skills with demonstrated success in marketing, public relations, or journalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in journalism, advertising, marketing, digital media or public relations

  • Experience in higher education marketing or a related field, community college highly preferred

  • Experience with website and social media content management systems (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Wordpress, Modern Campus OmniCMS)

  • Proficient use of content creation tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, YouTube Studio)

  • Knowledge of email marketing strategies and tools, and experience in running successful email campaigns

  • ·Experience gathering and interpreting website analytics and managing paid digital campaigns

  • Understanding and experience using AI-powered communication and marketing tools

    Physical Demands

The Marketing Communications Coordinator must have the ability and mobility to serve a rural service area; travel within the SCC district or statewide may be required. Must be able to work on a basis of “available as work demands” in addition to a fixed schedule.
