DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an intern, you will collaborate with park personnel on a variety of initiatives, gaining essential insights into park management, resource stewardship, administrative functions, and environmental education. Your role will involve interacting with visitors both in the office and in the field, where you will provide exceptional customer service to enhance their experience. You will contribute to the creation and delivery of environmental education and interpretive programs, as well as assist in formulating interpretive and recreational program plans, coordinating activities, and developing exhibits and informational materials for the Hills Creek State Park Complex.

You will work alongside park staff to understand the intricacies of managing natural resources, which encompasses the preparation, upkeep, and compliance with resource management strategies. Additionally, you will learn to interpret and implement statewide regulations, policies, and procedures related to park operations. Your responsibilities will also include assisting in the oversight of maintenance programs to ensure that park grounds, facilities, and equipment are well-maintained. Furthermore, you will gain exposure to law enforcement activities within state parks, familiarizing yourself with the relevant legal codes and ensuring compliance with park rules and regulations through public engagement.

In addition to these tasks, you will support special events and collaborate with volunteers, contributing to the overall success of park initiatives. It is essential to wear personal protective equipment as required for safety. You may also be tasked with operating a state vehicle to travel from the work headquarters to various park locations, and you might be called upon to undertake additional special projects as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require evenings and weekends, not to exceed 37.5 hours a week.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:

  • Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following acceptable majors:
    • Park and Resource Management
    • Environmental Science
    • Conservation
    • Wildlife Technology
    • Environmental Education
  • An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable.
  • Freshman year completed.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
