About the Role
This position will work the B (day) tour from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
The selected candidate must be able to respond to declared emergencies, including snow alerts, and work on an overtime basis as a regular function of the job.
The selected candidate must successfully pass the High-Tension Certification within a reasonable time (as determined by the circumstances/Management). If the selected candidate is unable to pass the certification within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire, the Port Authority reserves the right to terminate employment.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the General Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will be responsible for:
Maintenance and repair of electrical systems, which include traffic control and roadway lighting, communication and security systems, power distribution, and Ventilation systems.
Oversight of Electricians and Tunnel Systems Controllers.
Oversight of other skilled and semi-skilled craft groups to cover vacancies or absences.
Performing all Maximo related scheduling and cost tracking for supervised work.
Prioritizing and planning maintenance, corrective, emergency repairs, inspections, and in-house project work in a way that optimizes available resources and is in line with department goals.
Optimizing the use of staffing, materials, equipment, and work methods to stay current with industry standards and technology.
Conducting and supervising inspections of facility conditions and equipment.
Enforcing safe work practices, provisions of labor agreements, sick absence control policies, and Port Authority Rules and Regulations.
Assisting Engineering with the review of studies, contract specifications, drawings, and site visits.

Sustain continuity of maintenance work between changing crews, crafts, and tours.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid independent electrical experience at a commercial or industrial setting.
Must have independent experience in the operations and maintenance of complex electrical and electronic systems.
Must possess a valid NY or NJ driver’s license.
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
The selected candidate must successfully pass the High-Tension Certification within a reasonable time (as determined by the circumstances/Management). All applicants that meet the above qualifications must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test.
Desired Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with various levels of both PA staff and external contractors and agencies.
Knowledge of IBEW or electrical local contract preferred.
Preferred 1 year of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical systems.
Demonstrated performance in a lead electrician capacity.
Demonstrated knowledge of traffic control systems, roadway lighting, communications, pump, ventilation, and power supply systems.
Demonstrate some mechanical knowledge of HVAC systems.
Knowledge of national and local electrical codes.
Ability to read and plan work from drawings and blueprints.
Knowledge of administrative practices, safety procedures, and high-tension rules.
Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Be able to respond in adverse weather and other emergency conditions.
Ability to supervise subordinate staff.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of maintenance equipment, tools, work methods, and terminology of the maintenance field, and an understanding of safety practices common to various trades.
Experience working with MS Office Programs.
Experience with an Asset Management System (preferably Maximo).
Demonstrated contract administration experience.
Knowledge of SCADA, ITS, SONET/REP, CCTV, and Security Access Control Systems.
Experience with developing a project estimate and schedule.
Possess the High-Tension Certification.
