Paychex Software Engineer III in Webster, New York

Overview

Paychex North America Inc. seeks a full time Software Engineer III at our offices located at 675 Basket Road, Webster, NY 14580.

Responsibilities

  • Job Duties: Validate requirements, and perform analysis and design for system improvements and new applications using Agile Methodology, including designing, developing, and implementing web and service-based applications using Java/J2EE.

    Duties include:

  • Develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software to meet business and UI requirements;

  • Develop automated test cases using JUnit and perform the unit test;

  • Design and develop feature test automation code using Selenium, Java, Python, and Gauge;

  • Plan, document and execute unit test plans to ensure all code changes meet requirements/specifications;

  • Independently complete complex program changes;

  • Define development tasks and provide time estimates to aid in scheduling and monitor progress against task estimates;

  • Perform comprehensive analysis and design for broadly defined requirements;

  • Provide estimates required for user stories based on business requirements, specifications, and designs;

  • Implement best practices for performance tuning and optimization of application code;

  • Make significant technical contributions and contribute to technical direction;

  • Create database objects in Oracle database, and develop SQL queries and PL/SQL database programs using Toad;

  • Comply with and contribute to SDLC standards and CD/CI procedures to ensure consistency; introduce new standards and opportunities for improvements;

  • Monitor accurate progress against task estimates to provide status;

  • Provide technical support and quick troubleshooting for applications across environments, including high impact production issues;

  • Maintain existing code base, monitoring for failures in non-prod environments;

  • Support changes during quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and post implementation to ensure integrity of application;

  • Lead development efforts and provide mentorship to junior software engineers.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or foreign degree equiv.) in Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related field, plus 3 years of experience in any software development role.

    In the alternative, Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equiv.) in Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related field plus 5 years of experience in any software development role.

    Experience, which may be gained concurrently, must include:

  • 3 years of Java programming / J2EE experience;

  • 3 years of experience in AngularJS, Javascript, HTML and CSS;

  • 3 years of experience in designing, developing applications and enterprise level service endpoints;

  • 3 years of experience with Agile programming;

  • 3 years of experience with databases and SQL sufficient to work with complex databases and Oracle stored procedures, including creation, debugging and performance tuning;

  • 3 years of automated Unit Testing experience;

  • 3 years of experience with ANT and troubleshooting issues;

  • 3 years of experience conducting source code reviews with Code Collaborator, including providing feedback to prevent defects and future rework;

  • 3 years of experience with Jenkins build automation tools; and

  • 3 years of experience with Splunk, AppDynamics, and Log4j.

    Position requires participation in off-hours support rotation .

Compensation

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $131,352-$136,352 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. If you are hired at Paychex, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
