Job Description Summary

As a Principal Software Architect you will guide a global team through transition from SOA to Microservice architecture and from from Swing to Web-Based UI. The Architect will analyze, design, and develop a roadmap and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint.

Job Description

  • Guides global team on transition from SOA to Microservice architecture through clear documentation and by actively developing prototypes to demonstrate

  • Guides global team on UI transition from Swing to Web-Based UI

  • Champions design and architecture best practices, like trunk-based development

  • Analyzes, designs, and develops a roadmap and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint.

  • Participates in enterprise strategy development, including environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value cases and business innovation portfolio development.

  • Leads and coordinates the domain technical and business discussions relative to future architecture direction.

  • Supports, develops, and communicates domain-wide policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.

  • Reviews and approves recommendations and exceptions to architectural standards at a domain level.

  • Leads the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry and market trends to assist in project development and/or operational support activities, provides recommendations based on business relevance, appropriate timing and deployment.

  • Identifies the tools and components used within the domain based on the enterprise toolset and can define exceptions as warranted.

  • Ensures the conceptual completeness of the technical solution.

  • Works closely with project management to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.

  • Recommends allocation of budget to meet architectural initiatives critical to business/mission success. Develops the business case for approval.

  • Meets with project management and software development leaders to ensure progress towards architectural alignment with project goals and requirements.

  • Provides leadership, technology guidance and mentors others throughout their domain.

  • Define the skills, competencies in the skills and talents for architecture team members.

  • Influences through others. Uses experts or other third parties to influence. Builds direct and "behind the scenes" support for ideas, uses chains of indirect influence.

  • Challenges conventional thinking and traditional ways of operating and invites stakeholders to identify issues and opportunities. Helps others overcome resistance to change.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with a minimum of 12 years of experience

Technical Expertise:

  • Ability to consult customer on alignment of outcomes and desired technical solutions at an enterprise level

  • Ability to Analyze, design, and develop a software solution roadmap and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state of the business.

  • Working knowledge of configuration choices and related cost implications; Experience with complex solution configurations.

  • Knowledgeable of full range of solution catalog within a business unit and able to discuss overall solution at depth.

  • Experience sustaining operational stability through various life cycle phases (planning, implementation, steady state, de-commissioning); Ability to provision and budget via capital and operating.

  • Able to lead early stage customer interactions; Guide customers as they develop confidence and comfort with approaches, and integrate with their legacy tech investments.

  • Adept at navigating the organizational matrix; understanding people's roles, can foresee obstacles, identify workarounds, leverage resources and rally teammates.

  • Understand how internal and/or external business model works and facilitate active customer engagement

  • Able to articulate the value of what is most important to the business/customer to achieve outcomes

  • Able to produce functional area information in sufficient detail for cross-functional teams to utilize, using presentation and storytelling concepts.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of full solution catalog within a business unit and proficiency in discussing each area at an advanced level.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of internal organization

  • Foresee obstacles, identify workarounds, leverage resources, rally teammates.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and/or lead blended teams, including 3rd party partners and customer personnel.
