GE Healthcare Lead Embedded Software Engineer in Waukesha, Wisconsin

Job Description Summary

The CT Firmware Team is looking for a highly motivated Lead Embedded Software Engineer interested in being a part of a global team developing the real-time control software for industry-leading Computed Tomography (CT) Scanners. The Lead Embedded Software Engineer will be a part of the team working on implementing real-time control software on cutting edge embedded platforms and real-time operating systems (RTOS) for the next generation CT scanner using C/C++ programming languages and model-based development tools.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and test CT firmware subsystems, in collaboration with the system design team and hardware engineers, utilizing the CT hardware and embedded software technologies

  • Design and implementation of distributed control software that manages the next-generation components and subsystems for Computed Tomography (CT) medical devices

  • Leverage Design for Reliability for software, Agile and Lean software development methodologies to drive reliability into the product development life cycle

  • Design and build strong testing infrastructures to minimize dependency on hardware availability

  • Engage in all phases of New Product Introduction (NPI), including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support

  • Work closely with systems teams in requirements gathering and software design

  • Support planning the development activities; perform technical design and code reviews, mentor and coach junior engineers

  • Collaborate with global engineering teams to promote consistency and maximize synergies across common software platforms

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related computer field

  • 5 years experience developing hardware/software for complex systems or computerized products

  • Software development life cycle experience

  • Unit and automated testing experience

  • Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in C/C++ Experience in object oriented design methodology and various programming languages, including UML, C/C++ and Python

  • Experience in common industry communication protocols (DDS, Ethernet, SRIO)

  • Experience in system level integration and ability to demonstrate troubleshooting at the system level

  • Working knowledge of RTOS such as VxWorks

  • Working knowledge with CT systems designs and development

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States full-time

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related computer field

  • Experience in model-based software design and tools (Rhapsody, Rational DOORS, Matlab, etc. or equivalents)

  • Experience in software platform, advanced applications, user-interface design and/or systems engineering

  • Team leadership experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality tools and/or LEAN processes

  • Experience in embedded software platform and application development

  • Experience developing software for complex systems in regulated industry (medical, automotive, aviation)

  • Experience in VxWorks development and debugging

  • Experience with Linux/SLES 15 development environment

  • Experience programming with Python

  • Experience with Clearcase and GitLab configuration management tools

  • Experience with UML language and IBM Rational Rhapsody

  • Experience with Mathworks SIMULINK

  • Experience with Rally and working in an Agile planning and execution environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Established project management skills and ability to document, plan, and execute project.
