Generac Power Systems Engineering Supervisor- Home Standby Installation in Waukesha, Wisconsin

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading engineering activities including new product introductions, cost reduction, technology/research, and lifecycle product support. The position requires technical engineering knowledge coupled with people leadership skills, proficiency in continuous quality systems, cost reduction and project planning management experience. This role specifically supports Generac’s Residential Home Standby business with a focus on delivering design innovations and process solutions that increase installation efficiency to reduce total cost of ownership for our customers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related discipline

  • A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience

Additional Qualifications:

  • Track record of delivering innovative designs and technical solutions that improve overall product performance and efficiency

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes

  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills

  • Solid understanding of engineering technical issues/needs and financial items as related to product design and development

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible and high capacity to learn

  • Previous experience with SAP or equivalent ERP

  • Experience with Windchill or other PDM release systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a residential products design, development and validation environment preferably within Power Generation or Outdoor Power Equipment

  • Track record of delivering innovative designs and solutions from ideation through product commercialization

  • Experience in the development of stationary appliances and consumer products that require professional installation

  • Previous supervisory experience within an engineering organization

  • Ability to lead a team from conceptual ideation though commercialization of consumer products and accessories

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Select, coach and develop staff. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manage performance – recognizing achievement, providing feedback and administering progressive discipline when necessary.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop a product roadmap that targets a reduction in installation time and cost associated with Generac’s Home Standby product line

  • Designs, validates, and launches new technical solution and processes that reduce installation times and costs

  • Travel as needed to customer sites to value map the installation and commissioning process towards assessing and identifying opportunities to streamline the install process

  • Effectively manage the development process (e.g. develop time compression techniques, design/application standards for improved repeatability, manage process globally/across multiple locations).

  • Manage issues specific to the test lab such as storage, shipping, cost, and bidding process.

  • Foster collaboration between engineering departments to identify and harvest new engineering concepts, technologies, techniques, standards and procedures.

  • Manage expenses, ensure regulatory compliance and support corporate goals.

  • Provide engineering leadership and design input functions for new product development projects including: creating and maintaining development schedules, executing product development plans (schedule, product cost, resources to complete project, quality targets, product specification adherence, development and prove out of product validation test plans, etc.), interfacing with internal company personnel.

  • Ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet industrial/commercial product development requirements, per the sales/marketing plan.

  • Develop and lead the product development life cycle which includes interaction from the various business segments throughout design, manufacturability, and serviceability providing our customers the very best in innovation, quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Create and maintain an organizational culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment and a sense of urgency toward goals, and continuous improvement. Challenges team members to question the status quo and ensure that all aspects of the design, development and support process are optimal for the residential market.

  • Develop engineering talent by creating training and growth plans for employees.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
