Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Linux High-Performance Computing (HPC) System Administrator to join our team within Benet Laboratories at Watervliet Arsenal, NY. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux operating systems and related software on HPC clusters. This role requires a proactive individual who can monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the high availability and reliability of both Linux and Windows-based infrastructure. Position Responsibilities: Linux High-Performance Computing (HPC) System Administrator Key Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and related software on HPC clusters. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of Linux and Windows-based infrastructure. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement Linux-based HPC solutions that meet business needs. Implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux and Windows systems from unauthorized access and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures to minimize data loss and maintain business continuity. Automate system administrative tasks using scripting languages such as Bash or Python to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure proper system security and data integrity. Install, configure, and maintain network services, including DNS, DHCP, and LDAP. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve system performance and scalability. Qualifications: Certification Requirement : Industry certifications, such as Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), are highly desired Linux High-Performance Computing (HPC) System Administrator Qualifications/Skills: Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, preferably Red Hat. Proficient in Linux command-line interface (CLI) and shell scripting using Bash, Python, and/or Perl. Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining cluster management tools (such as NVIDIA Bright Computing, Scyld Clusterware, HPCM, etc.) strongly preferred. Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining job management tools (such as SLURM, Moab, TORQUE, PBS, etc.) strongly preferred. Experience configuring, installing, tuning, and maintaining scientific application software is strongly preferred. Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or KVM. Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and services, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and VLANs. Knowledge of storage technologies, such as RAID, SAN, and NAS. Understanding of security best practices and experience in implementing security measures on Linux systems. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve technical issues. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills to effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Proven work experience as a Linux HPC Administrator or a similar role. Industry certifications, such as Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), are highly desired. Strong understanding of server hardware and experience in server management. Ability to adapt to new technologies and stay updated with industry trends and advancements in Linux HPC administration.
