Position Summary:

As our Senior EH&S Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in championing and executing top-notch environmental, health and safety programs across all of our MPT facilities in Canada and the US. You will be our go-to expert, providing guidance and training on diverse health, safety and environmental topics through internal EH&S audits, ensuring we not only meet but surpass legislative and corporate standards. You’ll be instrumental in maintaining and developing environmental, health and safety programs and objectives and coordinate safety training programs across the sites. Your technical support for the MPT sites will ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”) and Environmental regulations in both Canada and the USA.

Reports To: Senior Manager, Manufacturing & Production

Essential Functions:

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Spearhead the technical support programs to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety, environmental and health regulations.

  • Engage the leadership to discuss safety plans, audit actions, incident trends while garnering support for EH&S initiatives.

  • Define and maintain the EH&S training matric, coordinate investigation of all accidents, including the identification and follow up on all actions to eliminate risks.

  • Report and manage all reportable compensation related accidents and maintain appropriate records ensuring timely submissions of documents to the appropriate parties. Act as a liaison with injured employees and the company in achieving a safe and early return to work.

  • Create and maintain key safety KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) including creating RCCMs (Root Cause Counter Measures) to resolve hazards and risks.

  • Participate in new product/process reviews including hazard assessments, Operator Training, etc.

  • Advise on regulatory changes with which the sites must comply.

  • Review, maintain and update safety programs and conduct on-going safety training (i.e. fork truck driver licensing, WHMIS, lockout procedures, ladder safety, and others as needed).

  • Coordinate noise and industrial hygiene testing. Conduct Hearing Conservation training for all employees exposed to noise levels in excess of PELS Permissible Exposure Limits). Coordinate baseline and regular audiometric examinations on designated employees.

  • Conduct fit testing and respiratory protection training for employees requiring the use of respirators.

  • Coordinate First Aid and CPR training for designated First Aid Attendants.

  • Promote safety and health awareness through internal company communications and specific training programs.

  • Act as a certified management representative and lead the JH&SC

  • Support manufacturing staff in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintain inventory of medical and safety supplies. Supervise distribution of supplies to manufacturing locations.

  • Maintain SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database, binders and labels.

  • Prepare necessary safety and environmental reports for government agencies as required including on-site visits.

  • Track the quantities and disposal methods for all waste streams generated at the Waterloo MPT sites.

  • Continually search for alternative methods and processes to reduce or alleviate the generation of waste materials and improve the safety performance of the sites.

  • Assist in the development and execution of annual company environmental, health and safety goals.

  • Actively partner with other IDEX Corporate and Business Unit safety professionals and team members.

  • Establish and test emergency preparedness and response procedures, fortifying the organization’s resilience proaactively

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization, enlisting the needed cooperation for successful implementation of programs and other measures needed to comply with regulatory requirements. Works with regulatory agencies at local, provincial, state and federal levels. Contact with safety and environmental consultants, outside laboratory contractors, waste disposal/transportation subcontractors as required.

Education and/or Experience and Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or other related field.

  • Professional EH&S designation preferred but not mandatory

  • 5+ years of EH&S experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental and safety regulations in both Canada and the USA.

  • Strong initiative, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks

  • Understanding and experience with ergonomics as it relates to repetitive manufacturing processes is an asset

  • Ability to travel to other manufacturing facilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Relevant safety certification(s) are highly preferred.
