Labor and Employment Attorney

Municipality seeking a full-time Labor and Employment Attorney for a busy municipal law office. The ideal candidate will be a confident and highly motivated attorney with experience in labor and employment law and litigation. The position offers a comprehensive salary and benefit package. Jury trial experience is preferred but not required

Responsibilities:

Prepares pleadings, briefs, motions, and other documents for trial, arbitrations, and administrative hearings.

Appears before courts and state administrative agencies, including the CHRO, EEOC, and Connecticut Department of Labor.

Prepares for, conducts, and defends depositions.

Defends the City in litigated matters.

Conducts legal research.

Provides representation on labor relation matters and works with HR department to assess the implication of new legislation and anticipated developments

Interp

rets and administers pertinent statutes, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.

Responds to and represents the City in unfair labor practice complaints.

Performs other related work as required.

Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of legal principles, including civil law, court rules and rules of evidence.

Strong organizational skills.

Familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software in an office setting.

Ability to conduct research on legal problems and prepare sound legal opinions.

Ability to prepare cases for trial and effectively present cases in court.

Ability to manage high volume/case load and meet tight deadlines.

Education/Training

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Required: Admitted to practice in the Courts of the State of Connecticut.
  • If not already admitted to the United States District Court of Connecticut, is eligible for such admission.
  • Experience: 1-2 years litigation and human resources experience, in which at least one year is in Connecticut courts. Trial experience required.
