Job Description

Per Diem Paramedic Crew Chief

Purpose:

Provide pre-hospital medical care for the ill and injured. The Paramedic Crew Chief must be able to operate independently with an additional staff member of any certification level. Assess injuries, administer emergency medical care and extricate trapped individuals. Transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities.

Education:

High School Diploma (GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)

[]{#_GoBack}Certification: Current NREMT Certified Paramedic, Current State of Vermont licensed Paramedic.

High performance CPR, Stop the Bleed, ACLS and PEPP within 6 months.

Have a minimum of 2 years experience as a Paramedic Crew Chief.

Hold a current Vermont Drivers License without restrictions

Be physically able to meet the requirements of the job

Essential Functions:

Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis. To accomplish this, regular attendance MUST be maintained.

Administer basic or advanced life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings using the Vermont Statewide Emergency Medical Services Protocols as the guide.

Be able to properly assess the nature or extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures

Perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as suction or airway management, during ambulance ride.

Administer drugs, orally or by injection, and/or perform intravenous procedures.

Be able to identify all medications used in the ambulance, prepare all medications for administration, calculate medication dosages and know the contraindications for those medications.

Provide comfort to patients

Observe, record, and report to hospital staff the patient\'s condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment.

Obtain signature sheets from the patient or patient representative, Face sheet(s) from the facility or hospital

Coordinate work with emergency medical team members be they shift members, medic intercept or MCI Command, police or fire department personnel.

Communicate with dispatchers and/or hospital personnel to provide information about the situation, to arrange reception of victims, or to receive instructions for further treatment.

Complete patient care reports in accordance with department and state policy.

Understand federal laws protecting medical information and patient privacy rights. Maintain these rights for you and the crew.

Patient placement on stair chair / stretcher and secured for ambulance transport.

Decontaminate ambulance interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease.

Check the readiness of vehicles, medical and communication equipment at the start of each shift. Replenish equipment and supplies as needed in the ambulances and restock the restock cabinet.

Perform daily equipment and truck checks to ensure equipment is operable and the ambulance is stocked with all required and necessary supplies.

Perform general maintenance of the ambulances and equipment, including washing/cleaning units to maintain a clean work environment.

Perform general station duties (cleaning).

Attend training classes/continuing education to maintain certification licensure as required by the NREMT and state law; keep abreast of new developments in the field and maintain existing knowledge.

Continue upkeep of skill through the district skills sheet review provided by the DMA

Be a positive ambassador for and of WASI.

Abide by WASI By-Laws and SOGs.

Operate the ambulance in a safe manner in accordance with department and city policies.

Precept EMS students.

Have ability to triage in multi-patient scenarios.

Participate in community and school activities to help reduce overall morbidity and mortality rates through public education.
