Position Title: Maintenance Lead

Corps/Department: Salvation Army, King's Lake Camp

Reports To: Divisional Youth and Candidate Secretary (DYCS)

FLSA Status: Temporary; Full-time; Non-Exempt;

Dates of Employment: June 18, 2024 - August 5, 2024

Scope of Position: Maintains the general cleanliness of camp, including buildings and grounds. Responsible for set up and tear down for camp programs. Assists DYCS with program-related projects. Assist with camp events, activity programs and campers as needed. Provides direction to Support Crew and ensures their work is done in a timely and acceptable manner, assisting as necessary. Assists the Summer Cook with meal preparation, meal service and clean-up as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age with a current driver's license with acceptable driving and criminal history reports.
  2. Prior work experience in maintenance or janitorial role, preferred.
  3. Current State of Alaska Food Workers Card required or ability to obtain before the start of camp.
  4. Demonstrated ability to use hand tools, cleaning products, maintenance equipment, and machinery.
  5. Must perform duties efficiently and demonstrate good judgment.
  6. Room and Board is provided as Maintenance Lead must be able to stay at camp while camp is in session.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide direction to the Support Crew by assigning tasks and ensuring all duties are performed in a timely manner.
  2. Maintain trails with assistance from the Support Crew and in collaboration with the DYCS. Use powertools to clear trails and pathways as needed.
  3. Take lead on moving large items or large amounts of supplies from one building to another using camp vehicle.
  4. Assist the Summer Cook with cleaning all machinery and power driven bakery machines in the Kitchen.
  5. Assist in cleaning and maintaining buildings, including cleaning and stocking bathhouses daily.
  6. Assist with kitchen duties, including but not limited to washing dishes, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, moving and setting up tables for meal service.
  7. Assist with serving meals, as needed.
  8. Attend and participate in evening programs and spiritual activities.
  9. Assist Counselors with campers as needed.
  10. Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to campers.
  11. Actively participate in the spiritual formation of campers and staff.
  12. Ensure campers respect personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
  13. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  14. Ensure campers adhere to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  15. Ensure and provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers and staff.
  16. Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and living quarters.
  17. Assist in clean-up of the camp at the end of sessions/summer.
  18. Follow the King's Lake Camp Covenant.
  19. Assist with all other duties as assigned.

Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Checks required by The Salvation Army for employment.

Driver Requirements: Must be a licensed driver with an acceptable driving history. Must also complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.

Work Environment: Work is performed both indoors and out of doors in a variety of cool to warm weather conditions. Noise level is generally low, but punctuated with motor and equipment operating noise. May require being out i wet weather for extended periods of time. Some work may be done in the woods.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to speak, sit, walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent basis; to grasp, reach, handle, finger, push or pull objects.
  2. Ability to see and hear at normal ranges with corrective devices, if necessary.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., or more with assistance.
  4. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in daylight, darkness, or in inclement weather conditions.
