UPMC Supervisor, Medical Staff Office in Washington, Pennsylvania
Purpose:
Supervises the Medical Staff office including but no limited to: the oversight of the credentialing and re-credentialing process, maintenance of the credentialing database and physician rosters, and communications with physician offices. Provides support for the Associate CMO of the Medical Staff office and the Medical Staff Committee Structure.
Responsibilities:
Supervises the Medical Staff application and/or renewal processes. Performs application processing, data entry and verification functions according to established policies, procedures and guidelines.
Along with Associate CMO coordinates all medical staff social functions including but not limited to the Annual Holiday and Golf outings.
Assist Associate CMO in all aspects of the department operations and functions and acts as a resource to the staff in the absence of the Associate CMO.
Manage the maintenance of the credentialing database system to ensure accuracy, integrity and completeness of credentialing and demographic information for all physicians and Allied Health Practitioners.
Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
Maintains and updates rosters and membership information as appropriate. Requests updated physician information from appropriate source to ensure current and accurate database. Generates reports and statistics regarding members and membership.
Provides support to the Associate CMO of Medical Staff Services and the Medical Staff Officers.
Oversee and coordinate all administrative aspects of the Hospital's Allied Health Committee and the Allied Health credentialing process including initial and reappointments. Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations.
Work with Associate CMO in overseeing, implementing and processing necessary documents to ensure compliance with OPPE and FPPE requirements for both medical staff and allied health practitioners.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Five years credentialing/re-credentialing experience required.
Thorough understanding of medical terminology required. Completion of Management training as recommended by Department Director in conjunction with Human Resources. Successful demonstration of the completion of the competencies required by the department/unit. Demonstrated analytical ability to interpret data/statistics, determine areas for improvement and recommend solutions. This individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures.
Effective interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with staff, hospital management, physician offices, and outside contacts. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics software applications. Thorough understanding of Medical Staff organizational documents including: bylaws, rules/ regulations as well as demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulation concerning credentialing and re-credentialing. Ability to maintain confidential information and adhere to established policies even under pressure of coercion.
