Summary:
The Skilled Laborer Civil is responsible for performing construction maintenance tasks of a skilled nature: finishing concrete, laying bricks and blocks, and operating vehicles and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in building and positioning forms for pouring concrete and dismantles forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, bolts or form hardware,
- Dig ditches and levels earth to grade specifications, using pick, shovels and rakes,
- Score and break asphalt or concrete with a jackhammer,
- Spreading gravel, asphalt and other materials over surfaces,
- Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials,
- Installation of erosion and sediment controls (i.e. silt fence, super silt fence, gutter buddies, etc.),
- Participates in demolitions,
- Erects and disassembles scaffolding, braces, barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures,
- Erects concrete forms and scaffolding,
- Apply waterproofing and sealant to protect concrete work,
- Moving materials to the worksite and ensuring all tools, machinery, and other equipment are safely set up,
- Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image,
- May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
- Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record,
High school diploma or equivalent required,
Must have 2 years of experience working in heavy highway construction,
Complete understanding of OSHA and company safety requirements,
Ability to kneel, bend and lift heavy materials,
Ability to measure accurately and read specifications,
Good communication skills,
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general street maintenance and construction work.,
Knowledge of the methods and practices of pouring and finishing concrete,
OSHA 30 preferred,
