Koniag Operations Services, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a PRN Environmental Health Specialist to support KOS and our government customer in Washington, DC.
Koniag Operations Services is currently recruiting an “as needed” Safety & Health Specialist who will be responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by implementing and overseeing various safety and environmental programs, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate must be willing to work evening and night shift as well as day shift.
Key Responsibilities:
Issue hot work permits and confined space entry permits
Maintain SDS records and document filing systems
Conduct injury/illness investigations and complete electronic reports
Perform chemical sampling and assist with disposal processes
Develop and implement energy control procedures and policies
Conduct exposure monitoring for occupational stressors
Perform powered industrial truck operator assessments
Assist with EMS internal audits and evacuation drills
Conduct safety, health, environmental, and fire prevention inspections
Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations and environmental policies
Conduct powered industrial truck (PIT) operator competency assessments and maintain a spreadsheet of all certified PIT operators
Investigate and document incidents, accidents, and near-misses
Maintain injury, illness, and complaint records
Assist with inventory management of safety supplies and equipment
Assist with the planning, conducting and evaluating evacuation drills
Provide assistance developing and maintaining equipment specific energy control procedures for DCF Control of Hazardous Energy Program (Lockout/tagout) upon request
Requirements:
Must be able to obtain a High-Risk security clearance and must maintain the level of security required for the life of the contract. A credit and criminal background check is also required.
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, environmental science, industrial hygiene, safety, occupational health, or related field
1-2 years of experience in environmental or health and safety industry
Up-to-date HAZWOPER training as specified by 29 CFR 1010.120
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to work different shifts, including holidays, as needed
Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant certifications in environmental health and safety
Experience with CORITY database or similar EHS management systems
Familiarity with ISO 14001:2015 standards
Working Environment & Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
