Democracy Fund is seeking an energetic, emotionally intelligent People Team Coordinator to help cultivate a values-driven culture that brings out the best in a rapidly growing, diverse staff who are dedicated to creating an open and just democracy. The People Team Coordinator will be an integral member of the Operations and People Team, reporting to, and working closely with, the Director of People to build out, strengthen, and execute a variety of HR processes.
The People Team supports Democracy Fund by finding and recruiting highly qualified staff who are aligned with our initiatives, values, and strategies. We develop and implement effective HR management and policies, as well as programs and services that contribute to our organizational and employee goals. This role sits as a hub connecting and working across the organization to support open communications, and will provide strong customer service to our internal teams and external partners. The People Team Coordinator will collaborate on building, updating, and maintaining systems and processes that are efficient and effective.

The People Team Coordinator will be the Democracy Fund?s primary liaison to JustWorks, a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), which administers the organization?s payroll, benefits, and other functions, and will be a key resource in the office for all staff on HR-related questions. The successful candidate will bring 2-3 years of relevant human resources experience, be highly motivated to deliver excellent work and build community, and be very adaptable as part of a growing, collaborative, and results-focused team. Excellent written and verbal skills, and a deep desire to learn and grow are required. The ideal candidate will bring some knowledge of critical HR functions, be a creative thinker, feel comfortable using various technology platforms, pay close attention to details, and be comfortable deploying data-driven analysis to inform decision-making.
Administer employee benefits programs such as retirement plans, medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance plans, temporary disability programs, and wellness programs.
Serve as a liaison between JustWorks and Democracy Fund staff to coordinate employee benefit updates and changes.
Act as the organization?s first point of contact on general employee benefits questions.
ONBOARDING & COMPLIANCE
Support the onboarding process from inception to fulfillment, including attending planning meetings, scheduling new hire orientations, and assisting with post-offer (pre-hire) paperwork.
Create and maintain confidential employee files.
Complete Forms I-9 and verify all supporting documentation.
Manage audits with vendors as needed (data compilation and follow up).
Maintain the employee handbook, making updates and changes as necessary.
Verify all requests for unemployment and employment verification.
Update and maintain Democracy Fund?s organization chart every month.
SYSTEMS, SUPPORT & COLLABORATION
Assist with the coordination of the annual Performance Management process.
Coordinate changes and upgrades to the Performance Culture system and answer general questions related to the system.
Maintain and update HR-related schedules, calendars, and agendas.
Keep stakeholders informed of project timelines and associated deadlines.
Collaborate with the People Team Associate to review, refine, and upgrade current HR systems and processes for increased efficiency.
Collaborate with the Director of People in pro-actively identifying and implementing HR goals, strategies, process maturation, and additional projects as assigned.
Assist with the implementation of employee engagement activities.
Provide additional support on other special projects as assigned.
Actively work to support the success of other members of the entire Democracy Fund team and cultivate an organizational culture that is highly collaborative, positive, and productive.
Work effectively with staff at all levels, balancing projects and priorities for multiple team members.
Contribute to a team culture that values collaboration, positivity, and transparency and that drives towards impact through continuous improvement and learning.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Deep passion for strengthening American democracy.
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent experience required.
2-3 years of progressive HR experience, preferably as an HR generalist.
Experience working in organizations with fewer than 100 employees preferred; nonprofit experience also preferred.
Familiarity with most, and clear proficiency with more than a few, of these critical HR functions: talent acquisition and retention, performance and organizational effectiveness, employee engagement, learning and development, compensation, HR strategy, HR administration, employee relations, HR technology and data, and diversity and inclusion.
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
Have a strong desire to continuously develop as a professional by building new strengths and learning new skills.

The position will eventually be based in Washington, D.C. but will begin remotely due to the ongoing pandemic.
