Johns Hopkins University Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level in international affairs with a focus on China, Asia, and space in Washington, District Of Columbia

With campuses in Washington, DC, Bologna, Italy, and Nanjing, China, the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University has been educating global leaders for more than 70 years. As a highly selective graduate institution with a distinguished faculty, SAIS consistently ranks as one of the top schools of international relations in the world. SAIS was founded to provide a practical approach to training students in international affairs and foreign relations, as well as to offer mid-career educational opportunities for those already working in related fields. SAIS invites applications for a term faculty appointment at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, specializing in international affairs with a focus on China, Asia, and space. The Senior Lecturer will also direct and lead activities, programs, and research at the School's Foreign Policy Institute (FPI). This appointment is a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable 9-month term position, scheduled to commence in the Spring semester of 2025. The starting course load is six courses per academic year, with potential reductions depending on non-teaching responsibilities including the FPI role. Candidates with backgrounds in international relations or international policy are encouraged to apply.

The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate - e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors; geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.

A Master's degree is required, and a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is strongly preferred, with at least 10 years of experience working in related fields. The candidate must have a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching political science, geopolitics with a focus on China and space, and/or international relations fields focused on Asia, space, and experiential teaching and learning methods. Candidates should bring experience from the private sector, government, and academia. Experience in leading and managing Centers and Institutes within a policy graduate school is preferred. They must also have experience in policy-oriented research and publications.
