Robert Half Junior Staff Accountant in Washington, District Of Columbia

Leading construction company located in Northern VA that specializes in custom homebuilding is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to join their growing finance team.

Job Summary: The Junior Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting financial operations. This position is responsible for managing accounts payable, payroll processing, and accounts receivable/collections.

Key Responsibilities for the Junior Staff Accountant:

  • Review, verify, and enter invoices into the accounting system.

  • Ensure accuracy of pricing and quantities by cross-referencing invoices with purchase orders (POs).

  • Process and prepare checks for payment.

  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.

  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all accounts payable transactions.

  • Review and post payroll for 100 employees located in Maryland (MD), Washington, DC, and Virginia (VA).

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of biweekly payroll using Sage 100.

  • Handle all payroll-related taxes and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Maintain and update payroll records, including employee deductions, benefits, and other payroll-related information.

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues.

  • Enter accounts receivable invoices prepared by Project Managers into the accounting system.

  • Monitor and manage the AR aging report to ensure timely collection of outstanding invoices.

  • Conduct light collection activities, such as sending reminders and following up on overdue accounts.

  • Maintain accurate records of all accounts receivable transactions and collections efforts.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, preferably within the construction industry.

  • Proficiency in using accounting software and excel

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll processing.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
